About Georgia. Poems about Georgia Georgian quotes in Georgian

Today they sent me their mini-report by mail - impressions are one of the last groups that we visited, in addition to awesome photos and a live story about impressions, there were two attachments: an essay that I will give below and poems about Georgia and the people inhabiting it. I cannot but rejoice that in every word that our guests say about Georgia there is a great merit of the people who inhabit it. And no matter how politicians try to drive a wedge, the peoples are still drawn to each other. Hallelujah! Our Russian friends!

Marina Sorokina.
People of Georgia. Essay.

They adore their mountains and hills. And they cannot but talk about it.

They build cities the color of the mountains.

They don't sit down at a table without wine. But without a good toast, the wine does not seem strong enough to them.

Everything that happens at the table could be called the center of their universe.

If they say a toast, they cannot be stopped. Just as it is impossible to stop the flow of their treats. Even if they did not expect you, in 5 minutes there will be a sea of Georgian edible delights on the table.

They still come to the train station and airport with flowers. As we used to be.

They always kiss and hug when they meet. As we sometimes do.

They are hotly bargaining with the buyer, but at the end of a heated dispute they give in addition a couple of valuable things as a gift. Like we never

They are calm about children. Do not fall into fanaticism in matters of education. Veneration for the elderly is demonstrated by a living example.

And when they turn to God, the children are nearby. Therefore, children should not be taught to believe. Just as you don't have to learn to breathe.

They collect the sun into grapes. They fill the wine with the sun. And they share wine, sun and grapes with every guest of Georgia.

They sing in grief. And in joy. And with nothing to do.

Their men love to sing, getting together, no less than they love to drink together.

They drive on roads with no rules. They honk furiously so as not to hurt each other. But in 24 days they were able to completely eradicate corruption in the driver-police relationship.

Their balconies are decorated with linen like flags. And therefore, even on the central avenues, they feel comfortable, like at home.

They are somewhat old-fashioned in dress. Straightforward in politics. Moreover, the terms "love" and "hate" are quite political for them ...

Their music is piercingly soulful.

Their dances are graceful and hot.

Their food is spicy, hot and soulful.

They gave the world Tariverdiev, Nani Bregvadze, Sofiko Chiaureli, Rezo Gabriadze, Pirosmani, Danelia, Parajanov. And each of us can go on to list their celebrities.

They keep their backs straight. There is no primitiveness and vulgarity in them. They have a lot of pride, dignity, hospitality, love for their land.

Georgia could be called a beautiful green mansion in the mountains, which stands apart from the whole world.

Stands proudly. Nice. With an accent!

O Georgia - wiping away our tears,
you are the second cradle of the Russian muse.
Having forgotten about Georgia inadvertently,
it's impossible to be a poet in Russia

Osip Mandelstam
I dream of Humpback Tiflis,
Sazandarei groan rings,
People crowd on the bridge
The whole carpet capital
And below the Kura is making noise.
There are dukhans over Kuroyu,
Where is the wine and sweet pilaf,
And the dukhanschik is rosy there
Serves glasses to guests
And I'm ready to serve you.
Kakheti dense
It's good to drink in the basement, -
There in the cool, there in peace
Drink plenty, drink two, -
One does not need to drink!
In the smallest dukhan
You will find a deceiver
If you ask "Teliana" -
Tiflis will float in the fog,
You will float in the bottle.
A person can be old
And the lamb is young
And under a lean month
With a pinkish wine vapor
Barbecue smoke will fly ...

Vakhtang Kikabidze. Bottoms Up
There is an ancient law in the Caucasus,
When we sit down at the table -
By tradition, by a clear verbal decree
Appoint yourself a toastmaster.
Toastmaster is the main personality
At a large and at a small table.
And it depends on our choice,
How will we spend that evening.
Drink to the bottom, drink to the bottom,
If the toastmaster asks you!
He will raise the first toast for the meeting
And also to hug each other.
With this he will simply drink to the world of masters,
That they are glad to receive us in the house.
And then at our feast
We will sing praise to the Lord together
And we will raise a beautiful lame one for the Motherland,
Filled with red wine.
Drink to the bottom, drink to the bottom,
If the toastmaster asks you!
And then there will be a toast to the beauties
Sitting at our table
Standing men, he will make them drink for them,
And theirs - for the family and for the house.
And, of course, he will remember the departed,
And he will drink to the health of the living,
And he will not forget the children, and will remind grandchildren,
So that you are not ashamed of them.
Drink to the bottom, drink to the bottom,
If the toastmaster asks you !.
Then he will say a toast to a smile,
For flowers, for love and for peace,
And for our land, for the happiness of peoples,
And so he will complete our feast.
I want to say goodbye to you:
Choosing a leader is not a problem.
The trouble is, if our existence and feast are headed by a bad toastmaster!

Elena Arutyunova
Plane from Moscow ... Straight to Tbilisi
At dawn, he will rush me into the blue distance!
A plane from Moscow ... Leaves in a warm city
They will kiss me tenderly on my cheeks.
The city of songs and dances ... the city of the smells of prisoners ...
Fragrant barbecue ...
My dear Tbiliso!
The warmest and kindest
My beloved and gentle
City of sun and laughter
It's so easy for me with you!
Sakartvelo - I love you!
Tbiliso - I miss you so much!
I'm in cold Russia for you, my dear!
I will come to you, this I promise
This summer ... spring ... or even winter ...
My drunken Tbiliso, I adore you,
We will see you, Georgia, with you soon!

Georgia is a country with many legends. One of them says that when God was distributing the earth among the peoples, the Georgians were busy with a feast on the occasion of the creation of the world. Having raised toasts, they nevertheless came. But it turned out that they were late. Then the Georgians said: "Sorry, dear, we were late: we drank to your health." God thought and said: "I saved a piece of land here for myself, but for your spontaneity and directness I give it to you! Remember that the earth is very beautiful and incomparable with anything, and people will admire and admire it in all ages." It was created as the Almighty said. For many centuries, everyone admires the beauty of a small but proud country.

An interesting legend, would you agree? And how many of them will you hear during your trip to Georgia! Countless!

But the number of facts in our article is limited. And all of them, believe me, are no less interesting than ancient myths.

1. Sakartvelo - this is how Georgians call their country. This word comes from the name of the people who lived on the territory of present-day Georgia - the Kartvels. The word "Georgia" came to our language in the 17th-18th centuries from the Arabic "Gurjistan".

2. In the ancient world, Georgia and Spain were called the same - Iberia. And the language of the Basques (people living in Spain) is very similar to Georgian.

3. Georgia adopted Christianity much earlier than Ukraine. Back in 319.

4. In the Georgian language there is no stress as such, only the tone rises on a certain syllable. Also in Georgian there are no capital letters, there is no masculine and feminine gender (it is determined by the context).

5. In the Georgian language there are words of 8 consonants in a row -გვფრცქვნის (gvprtskvnis). But this is not even a "ceiling" - in the famous Georgian work "The Knight in the Panther's Skin" a word with 11 consonants in a row is used - ვეფხვთმბრდღვნელი and sounds like - vefkhvtmbrdgvneli.

6. Before you say a Georgian word, make sure it sounds right. After all, you can find yourself in a funny situation when one wrong sound radically changes the meaning of a word.

7. In the Georgian language, the decimal system is used for naming numbers. To pronounce a number between 20 and 100, you must break it into twenty and state their number and remainder. For example: 33 is twenty-thirteen, and 78 is three-twenty-eighteen.

8. Even in the Georgian language, all known and native words sound like this: "mom" is dad, "grandfather" is mom, "baby" is grandmother, "babua" or "dad" is grandfather.

9. The remains of the first representatives of the human race were found on the territory of Georgia. They were discovered in 1991 in Dmanisi and date back to approximately 1 million 770 thousand years ago. They were given the names Zezva and Mzia.

10. Mostly people of the older generation speak Russian in Georgia. Among young people, Russian is unpopular and has very limited use. In the mountains, no one owns it at all. Now in the country, English claims to become the second official language in Georgia, children learn it in schools from the first grade.

11. Georgia strives to become a tourist Mecca for the whole world. Therefore, all signs, information boards and plates are made in Georgian and English languages, even the turns to the smallest villages.

12. Time in Georgia is 2 hours ahead of Kiev time in winter and 1 hour in summer.

13. If you have a fair drink at a party and do not want to get behind the wheel of your car, then calmly call the police patrol, warning in advance that you do not want to create emergency situations on the road. In gratitude for this behavior, the police will take you and the car to your house. And it's all absolutely free.

14. In Georgian high-rise buildings, elevators with payment or personal keys are very common. Elevators with payment - to go up, you need to lower a certain number of coins into the mechanism. The descent is free.

15. One of the many sights of Georgia is laundry hanging from everywhere, which Georgians place not on the territory of the balcony, but outside it.

16. Don't be surprised if you see men kissing on the cheek in Georgia. After all, according to the Georgian tradition, everyone kisses when they meet.

17. Not all houses in Georgia have central heating. In villages and small towns, people are heated with the help of stoves.

18. Georgians do not take off their street shoes when they come to visit. If you do this, Georgians may take such a gesture as disrespect for the owners. It's even worse if you ask for room slippers.

19. Main man during a feast in Georgia - toastmaster. According to custom, this is either the owner himself, or he chooses the toastmaster from among the guests ( Respected man). Please note that you cannot interrupt the toastmaster, his word is the law!

20. Toasts in Georgia is sacred. No one has the right to drink a glass of wine, unless, in turn, a toast has been made by all the people (elders) who participate in the feast.

21. If you see Georgians eating meat with their hands, you should know that this is not due to bad upbringing and bad manners. In this country, barbecue is eaten with hands, as if savoring it. This also applies to national dish khinkali. Eating them with devices, you risk not only looking stupid, but piercing the khinkali with a fork and losing the essence of this dish.

22. An obligatory attribute of a Georgian feast is a plate with herbs on the table. Cilantro, basil, tarragon, green onions - this is what Georgians love to eat with meat.

23. Family for a Georgian is sacred! They are very protective of their parents and friends. And the father's word is the law.

24. In some regions of Georgia, the tradition of stealing brides has been preserved. Only this is done at the mutual desire of the bride and groom.

25. The storage of weapons is allowed in Georgia.

26. In Georgia, it is impossible to refuse to come to a wedding, since this is a great offense for the inviting party, and it happens that a long-term enmity between two families begins with it.

27. Georgians have a very interesting tradition - all women would like it. All relatives of the groom must present the bride with gold. And do not tell me, Lord, someone will forget to do it.

28. The Georgian funeral is a separate topic. This is a kind of duty of every true Georgian. In the villages, all residents come to say goodbye to the deceased, bringing with them whoever they can: food, money, wine.

29. Georgia is called the birthplace of wine: it is here that the oldest remains of wine jugs and grapevines were found.
10 things you should never do in Georgia

30. In Georgia, there is an excellent hitchhiking: they will take you where you need to, then they will also feed you and give you an overnight stay, if necessary.

I'll start of course with A.S. Pushkin

Monastery on Kazbek

High above the family of mountains

Kazbeg, your royal tent

Shines with eternal rays.

Your monastery behind the clouds

Like a flying ark in the sky

Soars, barely visible over the mountains.

Distant, longed-for breg!

There b, saying forgive the gorge,

Climb to the free heights!

There b, in a transcendental cell,

To hide in the neighborhood of God - for me! ...

Night haze lies on the hills of Georgia;

Aragva rustles before me.

I'm sad and easy; my sorrow is light;

My sorrow is full of you.

By you, by you alone ...

Nobody torments, does not disturb,

And the heart again burns and loves - because,

That it cannot not love.

Vladimir Mayakovsky

To our youth (excerpt)

Three different sources of speech in me

I'm not one of the katsap-razin.

I am a Cossack grandfather, a sechevik to another,

And by birth - Georgian.

Vladikavkaz-Tiflis (excerpt)

I know: stupidity is Eden and Paradise!

But if it was sung about it,

It must be Georgia, a joyful land,

Poets meant.

Boris Pasternak

Waves (excerpt)

Already the castle's shadow grew from the cry

Who found the word, and in the mountains,

Like a scared stutterer by a mother,

Devdorah moaned and melted.

We were in Georgia. Let's multiply

I need tenderness, hell for heaven,

We'll take the greenhouse as a foot,

And we will get this edge.

And we will understand in how thin the doses

With the earth and the sky they enter the mixture

Success and work, and duty, and air

For a man to come out like here.

So that, having formed among the lack of food,

And defeat, and bondage,

He became a model, taking shape,

Something as strong as salt.

Nikolay Tikhonov

I know this Georgia

And in the heart is strictly shore -

Loud avalanches rejoice

And the tours are jumping in the snow.

Diamond channels are thundering

And over green world to all

Steps of ice hang like strings

Poems frozen in the air.

Accommodations in the towers, supper modest

On this regal land

I slept under a dark vault

And I didn’t see any more fun dreams.

A wonderful photo of the courtyard with the Svan towers was taken from the site http://www.risk.ru/users/veronika/4755/ and taken by Veronika Sorokina.

Walk in Tiflis (letter to Lev Sergeevich Pushkin - excerpt)

.... A wonderful view opened up. - From here, because of the baths,

I can see the castle behind Kura,

And it seems to me that the stone cornice

The steep bank, with overhanging houses,

With balconies, trellises, pillars, -

As a decoration for a magical benefit performance,

Luxuriously lit with sparklers.

From here I see - beyond the blue mountains

Dawn burns like an altar - and Tiflis

Greet with farewell rays -

Oh, how brilliantly this hour is passing!

Great for the unfamiliar

Painting! Remember the whole mass of these buildings,

All this mixture of ruins without legends -

Houses built, perhaps from ruins -

Orchards entwined with branches of grapes,

And these domes, of which there is only one kind

Will remind you of Constantinople suburb.

And agree what to draw

Tiflis is not my pen ....

In the Caucasus

Since ancient times, our Russian Parnassus

Drawn to unfamiliar countries,

And most of all, only you, the Caucasus,

Ranged with a mysterious fog.

Here Pushkin is on fire

He made his disgraced soul:

"Do not sing beauty in my presence

You are sad songs of Georgia ”.

And Lermontov, treating melancholy,

He told us about Azamat,

How is he for Kazbich's horse

He gave his sister instead of gold.

For sadness and bile in your face

The boiling of yellow rivers is worthy

He, like a poet and an officer,

Was calmed down by a bullet from a friend.

And Griboyedov is buried here,

As our tribute to the Persian hmari,

At the foot of a great mountain

He sleeps under the cry of zurna and tari.

And now I am your smoothness

I came without knowing the reason:

Is it home to weep the ashes here?

Or to spy on your own hour of demise!

It is better to drink "Borjomi" in Borjomi

And "Akhasheni" - in Akhasheni.

Captivates us in an open house

The original source of taste.

This is a unique miracle,

Everything is familiar and unfamiliar ... .So in the homeland of the poet

You listen to poetry - in a different way.

The magic current, born in the vines,

In the soul, in the silence of the underground vaults,

Doesn't tolerate difficult transportation,

Doesn't tolerate false translations.

Vsevolod Rozhdestvensky

Batumi (excerpt)

So sometimes, wounded with light sadness,

Looking at the surf strip,

Here in Batumi, a longtime northerner,

I carry the sun in my chest.

As if I was born here once

Or lived for many years

And he greets me like a brother

Lighthouse green star.

Andrey Voznesensky

Tbilisi bazaars

Down with Raphael!

Long live Rubens!

Trout fountains,

Colorful rudeness!

Here are the holidays on weekdays

Carts and watermelons.

Merchants are like tambourines

In bracelets and beads.

Indigo turkeys.

Wine and persimmon.

Are you out of money today?

Drink for free!

Long live the women

Salad vendors,

Match the baobabs

In four girths!

Bazaars are fires.

It's fiery, young here

Burning tan

Not hands, but gold.

There are gleams of oils in them

And gold wines.

Long live the master

What will write them out!

I'm in Georgia. I don't know anyone.

Someone else's speech. The customs are alien.

As if my life was bent over the edge,

As if I were dreaming - and I see blue

Hills. The magpie walks around the yard.

If I knew why, forgetting the nest,

To search for the mind, and to travel so far,

As the singer Sophia used to say.

Oh, you see, I like the balcony

Such a balcony, long, wooden.

Forgive me for the evasive answer

Like this guttural ledge.

Cheer up. because what happened to us

No more fun than what will happen to us.

Oh, you see, I like the railing

And everyone wants buildings and people.

Buildings and people, of course!

But I will die - for the balcony

I will grab - and jump out of the horror,

And dust off and crumple up a handkerchief.

Love held me - it collapsed.

Everyone is drawn down, so don't give up though,

Ah, Georgia, you are mercy in this life,

An extension to her, a refuge and a whim!

Alexander Griboyedov

Where the Alazan winds,

Bliss and coolness blows

Where tribute is collected in the gardens

Purple grapes

The daylight ray shines brightly,

They look early, love a friend ...

Are you familiar with that country

Where the land knows no plow

The eternal youth glitters

Lush with bright colors

And gives the gardener

Golden fruits?

Wanderer, do you know love

Not a friend to the dreams of the deceased,

Scary under a sultry sky?

How does the blood burn with it?

They live and breathe it,

Suffer and fall in battles

With her in my soul and on my lips.

So the samums from the south are puffing,

They heat the steppe….

What fate, parting, death! ..

Sergey Gorodetsky

Evening

Shadows fall from the mountains

To my purple city.

Invisible steps

An hour pass mute.

And the ringing of important cathedrals

Flowing high

Like the rustle of wet lilies,

Falling asleep.

And the smokes are quietly melting

Warmed dwellings

And the month of the pilgrim

Comes out naked and prostrate.

Birds call chicks

And mothers - children.

Here the eyelashes of the stars will flash

Streams of rays.

Here the night will shudder

Cozy wing

So that everyone who is lonely

I felt relieved from my heart.

Bella Akhmadulina

Dreams about Georgia

Dreams about Georgia are joy!

And in the morning so clean

Grape sweetness

Lips that lighted up.

I don't regret anything

I want nothing -

In the golden Svetitskhoveli

I put on a poor candle.

Small pebbles in Mtskheta

I give praise and honor.

Lord let it be

Forever as it is now.

May there always be news to me

And they conjure over me

The harshness of the sweet homeland,

The tenderness of a foreign homeland.

My Tbilisi (excerpt)

The old plane tree, barely shaking the foliage,

You are wise, as if you were karachokheli.

Beckoning Galaktion with a sign,

In Tbilisi, Pushkin wanders with Pasternak.

Oh my city, smoking khinkalnye,

A little crazy and homey

Give me such happiness after death

Become your shadow forever, part of ...

Tbilisi has a special charm.

The stars are staring at this city.

For some reason always close in Tbilisi

To Rome, to Athens and San Francisco.

In Tbilisi with the feeling of old Tbilisi

I know all the stones of the pavements by sight.

Whoever left, he knows for sure

It is impossible to leave Tbilisi.

Tbilisi does not leave you,

When he sees you off on the road.

And you will start to forget - somewhere in the atrium

Collet lens mountain Kashuety.

Like the fact that the Milky Way is immortally milky

I believe that the city is eternal.

Alexander Tsybulevsky

Of course, there is no dukhan corner,

Like the very corner - everything around is new,

The organ grinder is dead. And yet the shadow of the Maidan

I was dully imprinted on someone else's asphalt ...

Nothing from the old dukhan.

How simple everything is. Here is a nimble old woman-

She has to cross the road in haste:

Buy a bottle of lemonade in the heat.

Rinse in a glass drum

Remnants of the sky are pale blue.

The basis of life is close to the sulfur bath,

Phenomena are artless and clear.

Without choice, sort out any,

Like a poor plastic rosary.

Bulat Okudzhava

Georgian song

I'll bury a grape seed in the warm earth,

And I will kiss the vine, and I will pick the sweet bunches,

And I will call my friends, I will tune my heart to love ...

Get together, my guests, for my treat,

Tell me directly to my face, who do I have a reputation for?

The Heavenly King will forgive all my torments and doubts ...

Otherwise, why do I live on this eternal earth?

In his dark red my Dali will sing for me,

In my black and white I will bow my head to her,

And I will hear, and umpu from love and sorrow ...

Otherwise, why do I live on this eternal earth?

And when the fog begins to swirl, flying in the corners,

May they still and still float before me in reality

Blue buffalo and white eagle and golden trout

Otherwise, why do I live on this eternal earth?

Anton Chekhov

From a letter to K. S. Barantsevich

... I survived the Georgian Military Road. This is not a road, but poetry, a wonderful fantasy story written by the Demon and dedicated to Tamara ... Imagine yourself at an altitude of 8000 feet ... Imagine? Now if you please come mentally to the edge of the abyss and look down: far, far away you see a narrow bottom, along which a white ribbon winds - this is a gray-haired, grumpy Aragva; on the way to it, your gaze meets clouds, fishing lines, ravines, rocks. Now raise your eyes a little and look ahead: mountains, mountains, mountains, and on them insects are cows and people ... Look up - there is a terribly deep sky, a fresh mountain breeze is blowing ... To live somewhere on Gudaur or at Darial's and not write fairy tales are disgusting! ...

Alexey Tolstoy

In the Caucasus

.... Early in the morning from the balcony I saw the brown, reddish, tiled Tiflis, its eastern side. A lot of smoke rose over the houses in the clear and still air; on the muddy, swift Kura, floating mills slowly turned with large wheels; behind them, from the Kura itself, stood the old walls of houses, so high that the river seemed to flow along the bottom of a deep gorge; ladders to the water hung from the doors here and there; further on, on the Asian side, gray minarets, domes and smoke are visible; Stony and brown hills surrounded the city even further, and behind them mountains, even further away - snow ...

Konstantin Paustovsky

Throw South (excerpt)

I already knew many places and cities of Russia. Some of these cities have already been taken prisoner by their uniqueness. But I have not yet seen such a confused, colorful, light and magnificent city like Tiflis.

And I finish my poetic reportage again with A. With Pushkin J

Alexander Pushkin

Travel to Arzrum during the 1829 campaign

I have never met anything more luxurious than the Tiflis baths, neither in Russia nor in Turkey. I will describe them in detail.

The owner left me in the care of a Tatar bathhouse attendant. I must confess that he had no nose; this did not prevent him from being a master of his craft. Hassan (as the noseless Tatar was called) began by spreading me out on a warm stone floor; after which he began to break my limbs, stretch my joints, beat me hard with his fist; I did not feel the slightest pain, but an amazing relief. (Asian bath attendants sometimes get delighted, jump into the pool for you, slide their feet along the thighs and dance squatting down the back, and great. After that, he rubbed me with a woolen mitt for a long time and, having splashed heavily warm water, began to wash with a soapy linen bubble. An inexplicable feeling: hot soap pours over you like air! NB: a woolen mitt and a linen bladder must certainly be taken in a Russian bath: connoisseurs will be grateful for such an innovation.

After the bubble, Hassan let me go to the bath; that was the end of the ceremony.

Uniting heroes from North America before South-East Asia, for almost a year now, has opened the veil of secrecy and, representing different ages, professions, cultures and religious confessions, tells what country visitors see. Some of them are just traveling around the country, others decided to live here. We present a selection of ten of the most striking quotes from foreigners about how they see Georgia.

"There are a lot of kind people... For 50 years, believe it or not, I have not met a single one here bad person", - Estonian.

Regina Kakhidze is the head of the Estonian Society of Georgia, holder of the Estonian Order of the White Star. Soon she will be celebrating a golden wedding with her Georgian-born husband. Regina learned well Georgian language and is engaged in translations from Estonian into Georgian, she is a kind of unique specialist in this field and has written an Estonian-Georgian and Georgian-Estonian phrasebook.

"Georgian wine is a real wild wine!" - Dane.

Tobias Dureborg is a restaurateur and professional sommelier. He lived in Europe for a long time and South America and traveled a lot. Having visited Georgia once, he could no longer forget it and decided to move. The old narrow streets of Tbilisi, natural wine, friendliness and hospitality of Georgians inspired him to open a small Scandinavian restaurant.

"Italian courtyards are real Tbilisi for me," - Muscovite.
