I thought it would be hotter here, because the climate is different. At the age of 14, he left for Yekaterinburg to build a career

As a child, David was very restless, and grandmother Lyudmila Viktorovna, who raised him, sent the boy to gymnastics.

He was spinning, spinning, he could not watch TV calmly, he was restless. He climbed the walls, stripped everything in the house. I decided: that's enough, I'll send it to the gymnastics section, - says my grandmother.

David left at eight in the morning and returned home at the seventh hour. But constant training did not interfere with study.

At school, at meetings, he was always set as an example: “Here, go and ask how David manages to train, study and get good grades.” He was an excellent student. In addition to studying and sleeping, he didn’t need anything else, ”the grandmother says.

I just went out, thinking that this is the Olympics, which means that you need to fulfill your task and that's it.

“It was a great performance for me. Before that, at the 2011 World Championships, I took sixth place, and here the Olympics are the main start in the life of athletes, and I managed to become fifth. Step forward.

- It is clear that in Rio the goals are completely different. To begin with, I will try to get to the finals at the Olympics, and then I will try to fight for a medal. Four years ago, just getting to the Olympics was great, but now I want to win awards. As I said, we can fight the Japanese. Plus, on the uneven bars, I raised the base. The old base did not allow me to get into the final, and now at the European Championships in the final I got 16 points, which means that I can be among the winners.

– No, there is no such thing. The only thing is we have to get a license for the country. We did it at the World Championships when we took 6th place in the team all-around. At least, it was necessary to be in the top eight. Plus, then 4 teams are still selected, in total, 12 of the strongest teams in the world participate in the Olympic Games. And personally for each selection is not present. I have been proving for a long time that I should be in the team, they are counting on me. At the World Championships, for example, I did six shells from the team. Some make one shell at a time, but they put me on everything. That is, there was no question of my failure.

And Sergey Nikolayevich Zakirov and I, this is my first coach, decided that we need to change something if we want to achieve results. - The problem is that only accredited persons are allowed into the Olympic Village. My girlfriend was in Rio, but she lived separately.

- Were you allowed to meet?

- It was not forbidden to meet, but there was simply no time for it. Competitions, training. Training, competitions - we did not have a single day off.

- Does a stormy night harm the upcoming performance?

- I think so, if it happens immediately before the competition. It is better not to release energy.

- In the Olympic Village, did you eat for money or for free?

- In the Olympic Village, any service is free: food, swimming pool, medical center, laundry, ironing.

- How did you like the food, did you miss borscht, cabbage soup?

- They fed us borscht. A separate villa was rented, where the medical center was located. You could spend the whole day there, relax and even eat borscht. I didn’t manage to get into the Russian House - the coach didn’t let us go anywhere else.

- Emin, how were journalists received? The apartments where they lived didn't look like shacks?

- It was possible to live. We traveled from our federation. At first I was there as a tourist, and then I received an invitation to comment on the competition. And although I had enough free time, I practically did not go anywhere, except for a couple of times to the Fans' House, because it was dumb. There were a huge number of stories with robberies and attacks. For example, our illustrious swimmer, silver medalist Zhenya Korotyshkin, was robbed at two in the afternoon near the Russian House by guys with weapons. I had to move only in groups and it was better to use personal transport, because taxi drivers specially drove through the favelas, where local guys took everything clean, and people returned back without things.

Did the Federation organize security?

- We had security, but the Brazilians themselves brought many military men with weapons into the city, since their police are mostly corrupt.

What did you bring with you from Rio?

- Souvenirs, coffee, T-shirts with the symbols of the Olympics, figurines with Christ.
