I have a family, a small child who is seven months old - daughter Varvara. I have a wonderful wife and two children. These are my best achievements for the 55th anniversary. I like it - I like to do figure skating.

- You break stereotypes, because in figure skating it is rare if an Olympic champion, being a coach, brings his student to the highest step of the Olympic podium. Why?
- Some people are too lazy, having rolled down from the top, to climb up again, to make titanic efforts. This is insanely difficult, and only a few of us achieve this.

- In Moscow, you have new couples: Vera Bazarova - Andrei Deputat, in addition, the international duet Katarina Gerboldt - Brian Joubert is training in the capital, who is supposedly preparing to make his debut for the Russian national team ...
- ... With Gerboldt and Joubert, the issue has not been fully resolved: the Frenchman has not yet decided whether he will compete in pair skating. “And I have nothing to do with Peter right now. I work in Moscow, where there is enough ice, skating rinks, and related conditions. But even on the banks of the Neva I never complained that there was not enough ice for me: there was enough of it and of good quality. Leadership attitude? You always want more attention.

- What, then, prompted you to leave for Moscow from St. Petersburg, your native city?
- Peter and now my native city. And in Moscow I am for family reasons - my wife is from here, from the capital. It's just that it's convenient for my kids right now. But I regard my presence in the Mother See as temporary - for 4 years, 8 or 15 years, but temporarily. I will still return to the banks of the Neva. As for figure skating, I wanted the Katarina Gerboldt-Alexander Enbert pair to continue to exist, and I tried my best to knock out money for them. But during those six months that I fought for them, I did not receive a penny of funding - neither from the leadership of the figure skating school, nor from the sports committee, nor from the city. Therefore, the couple broke up. Enbert was offered first-class facilities in Moscow and immediately left. I understand his decision. He is a young man, he needs to provide for his family. And the couple Vera Bazarova - Deputy (???) also did not receive a second, St. Petersburg, "registration". They, if everything goes well, will have a double standings - Moscow and Saransk. I suggested making this duet St. Petersburg. But they told me: “Is it necessary ?!” Then I realized: in St. Petersburg, figure skating is not interesting to anyone. This city does not need anything in terms of sports. So what am I going to run ahead of the locomotive? And I went to Moscow. I hope that figure skating on the banks of the Neva will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes. But so far there is no progress: apart from promises, nothing is heard. Over the past four years, the results of the skaters of the Northern capital have been getting worse, worse, worse. No matter how deplorable it was, all the work was carried out in the city for show and for formality. Everyone worked, accounted for something - but where is the result? Why in 2006, at the Olympics in Turin, the St. Petersburg team made up 75% of the Russian team, and now there are “one and a half” athletes left in the team?

From rentals to music with words not happy

- Can we say that after the Olympic Games in Sochi, a new victorious era began in Russian figure skating?
- And after each Olympics, everything starts from scratch. And the current four years are no different from the previous ones. Games are the stage that needs to be overcome and - “up!” - jump to a higher one.

- What discoveries did you make at the last Moscow Grand Prix stage? Who, in particular, surprised you and why?
- Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov surprised me with their readiness in November. They skated the free program so well that I thought: what will happen next, in January and March, when the time comes for the European and World Championships? Will they be able to skate even better or will they just keep in shape until the end of the season? For they came close to the maximum of visible modern human possibilities. But the program is good, the elements in it are excellent.

- How do you feel about the innovation of the current season, when you can perform at official competitions to music with words and even to song performance?
- I'm not a big fan of this innovation. Although I don't mind. But not happy either. Let me explain why: vocals do not interfere with a strong skater, but the “weakling” breaks the whole program - the skater gets lost, and we observe strange body movements on the ice accompanied by musical accompaniment. I think that an athlete should be very careful. Ready for strong vocals - take it to the program, no - beware. As for "Notre Dame de Paris" without words, which the audience, of course, are not used to, but which is performed this season by Stolbova and Klimov, they took original pieces from there, and not a hackneyed vocal accompaniment. Therefore, it was easier for them to create recognizable images on the ice.

- But don’t such innovations bring figure skating closer to entertainment shows like Ice Age?
- If you close your eyes, then - yes, it brings you closer. And if you open them, you will feel the difference.

While I'm in Russia, and I feel good

- You are not a fan of the same Ice Age: for all eight seasons of the show, you only sat on the jury a couple of times ...
- The show is still a different format. Not a sport, but a business. And therefore does not meet my interests. However, from the point of view of popularizing figure skating in our country, these projects still helped: many children were sent to this sport.

- Many people are now trying to leave Russia or say they are trying. On the contrary, you once said that you were returning home, having "rounded off" your business in Chicago. Can you say that you associate all the future with our country?
— The question is difficult. And ambiguous. Now I am in Russia, and I feel good. So for now I'm here.

At the time, this story made a lot of noise. Pretty German figure skater Nadine Pflaum took the risk of settling at the training camp not with a teammate, but with her coach Karel Faifrom. The parents of the young athlete were horrified. The daughter told them that in the evenings, a respected trainer went into the bathroom when she took a shower, wiped her body with a towel, and then massaged her naked and kissed her intimate places.

A few years ago, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg Palace of Sports, where the Russian Figure Skating Championship was held, there was a rumor: an eminent figure skater in the past, and now a coach Oleg Vasiliev very passionate about his ward - Tatyana Totmyanina. And the student reciprocates. Vasiliev came to the banquet on the occasion of the end of the tournament in the Colchis restaurant with Totmyanina, and Tatyana's partner in the sports duet Maxim Marinin didn't show up at all. When some young man wanted to invite the champion to dance, Tatyana looked inquiringly at the coach, Vasilyev pretended that he did not care, but Tatyana still did not dance. Then Tatyana still did not dare to reveal the truth.

This is my private life, and I don’t dedicate anyone to it, ”she told reporters. Shortly before that, in October 2004, trouble happened to Totmyanina. At the Grand Prix stage in Pittsburgh (USA), during the support, Tatiana fell headlong onto the ice and lost consciousness. Tatyana spent about a day in the hospital. And all these 20 hours, Oleg Vasilyev was next to her. At the first opportunity, he called Tanya's mother and tried to calm her down. Mom wanted to fly to her daughter in Pittsburgh. But it turned out to be difficult to urgently get a visa to the United States, according to the mentor. So the coach constantly kept Tatyana Vasilyevna informed about how her daughter was being treated.

Oleg Kimovich surrounded Tatyana with touching care. He came, gave huge bouquets of flowers, constantly cheered up. The coach told Tatyana a story that he personally witnessed. In the late 70s, the Soviet figure skater Irina Vorobieva(she performed with Igor Lisovsky) suffered a concussion during the World Cup. This happened in training on the eve of the free program. By all accounts, a pair of Vorobyov - Lisovsky had to withdraw from the tournament. But the next day, contrary to the doctors' ban, Irina went on the ice. And he and Igor climbed the podium!

Totmyanina and Marinin trained with Vasilyev in America, in Chicago. Everything would be fine, but in Russia Oleg Kimovich had a legal wife. Second in line. When he was offered a job in Chicago, Valentine met this news without any enthusiasm. - And what have I forgotten in your America? - she said to her husband with a challenge. - What should I do there - spit on the ceiling?
