The Enemy Within: The Origin of Wolverine. All Wolverine costumes

Logan is the latest X-Men film for Hugh Jackman, who "ties up" with the character after eight incarnations of Logan on screen. Cultural columnist Life Ivan Talachev answers all the questions that an unprepared viewer may have. Will Wolverine appear on screen again? Do I need to prepare to watch? Why is Wolverine getting old? What will happen next?

Is this movie really Jackman's last?

Do I need to watch previous X-Men movies or read any comics to understand what's going on in the movie and not miss the references?

No, look at the previous ones - it's scary to imagine! - eight films about "X-Men" is not necessary at all. They are very weakly connected with Logan, as, by the way, with each other: the action of the tapes has long been taking place in parallel realities and different time periods that overlap each other. Even seasoned fans often get confused in them, not like unprepared spectators.

The events of "Logan" also take place in a parallel reality, so there are no references to any events from previous films. For a guarantee, the authors of the tape even moved the events forward 50 years in order to distance this story from the rest of the films in the series in every sense.

You don't have to read the comics either. The script of "Logan" is based on the motifs of one of the best comic book series about Wolverine called "Old Man Logan". Plot-wise, it has almost nothing to do with the new picture, so you can read it at any time: before the film, after it, and even during, if the darkness in the cinema does not stop you.

What kind of girl walks hand in hand with Wolverine?

Frame from the movie "Logan" / kinopoisk.ru

Her name is Laura and she is the main character in the Logan storyline. She is played by Dafne Keen, an 11-year-old actress for whom this film role is her first.

In order not to spoil the plot twists and turns of "Logan", it remains only to say that in the Marvel comics there is a character named Laura Kinney, who is called X-23. She is unsociable, silent, has two pop-up blades on each arm and can regenerate damage. Just like one of her close relatives. Everything, no more words.

Who are the enemies this time?

Rivers. Cybernetically modified mutant hunters who wear amplifying prosthetics and enhancements in their bodies to compete with the carriers of special abilities on an equal footing.

The Reavers are led by a mercenary named Pierce. He is played by Boyd Holbrook, the star of Narcos and the future leader of a gang of soldiers from the new Predator movie.

According to the plot, the Reavers are hired by the evil company Transition to find and, if possible, destroy the children gifted with superpowers who have escaped from their laboratory. There, not the most pleasant experiments were carried out on them to create super-soldiers.

Why is Wolverine old and covered in blood? Is he immortal and regenerates?

Frame from the movie "Logan" / kinopoisk.ru

It's not that simple. The restorative factor that allows Logan to heal wounds weakens with age. In turn, the adamantium metal, from which the mutant's skeleton is made, is dangerous for the carrier: according to various versions, it is either toxic or radioactive.

The skeleton has "worn out" Wolverine's abilities that worked all the time, to the point where wound healing now takes him much longer, and the mutant's body shows signs of aging.

If I didn't like the previous films in the series, why go for this one?

Because he's good.

Firstly, this is the first X-Men film released in America with a censorship rating of R (in Russia, viewers from 18 years old are allowed to watch Logan). The adult rating, among other things, allows checkmate in the scenario. True, it will only be in the original version, we are prohibited by law. There's also some real blood (and a lot) in the film, which, as the studios pointed out in the case of Deadpool, translates into a very big box office. Apparently, the plastic heroes, who fight absolutely bloodlessly, are sick of the viewer who wants to see how Logan tears people apart with his claws. This whim "Logan" satisfies in full.

Secondly, in the case of Logan, comics movies finally turned their attention to adult themes. This story is not about heroes, saving the world and destiny. And not even about society's rejection of minorities - the first two parts of X-Men, which tell about the confrontation between people and warring groups of mutants, are still considered gay director Bryan Singer's manifesto against the oppression of members of the LGBT community. This is a story about old age, fatherhood and, of course, the nature of death.

And thirdly, if you like numbers and estimates, then here is important information for you. According to rating aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, 93% of reviews of Logan are positive. He shares this record among film adaptations of films based on Marvel comics with Spider-Man 2.

I don't want to say more about the film's ending than I should, but in the end, the creators hint at a new group of superhumans that will replace the X-Men. They are not given names, but the creators in interviews often recall a special group of mutants called "Weapon X".

If the "X-Men" were either in comics or in films more of a peacekeeping organization that advocates world peace than a military detachment, then "Weapon X" is just the same group of combat mutants that was sent to do the dirty work of eliminating enemies of order and tranquility. Wolverine himself, then Deadpool, then his main enemy Cable, then the mutants Cylock and Caliban, whom you could see in Apocalypse a year ago, entered there at different times.

In any case, the studio's future plans are connected with Deadpool 2, which comes out exactly one year later, at the beginning of March 2018, and several series based on X-Men. The first of them is already on the air and collects excellent criticism. It's called "Legion" and is hailed as one of the best and most original comic book series. It’s worth starting at least with the fact that his main character is undergoing treatment in a psychiatric hospital, because he hardly distinguishes reality from his embodied hallucinations.

I really want to show my friends as a Wolverine fan, but I haven't read any of the comics. How to do it?

It's easy. Tell that the real name of the character is James Howlett, and Logan is a nickname. On this question, beginners in comics, who have seen enough film adaptations and are not versed in paper material, are often weeded out. Say that Russell Crowe was originally planned for the role of Wolverine in 2000 and that Jackman is too tall for the role - 187 centimeters versus 160 for the hero in the comics. Yes, Wolverine is not very tall.

If that doesn't help, remember that the original writers of Marvel comics were going to name the character Badger.

(Wolverine) his real name James Howlett is a fictional character and superhero from the universe. He is usually referred to by his pseudonym Logan. He is a member of many teams, the main ones being the X-Men and the New Avengers. The character debuted in issue 180 of the comic. Incredible Hulk, released in October 1974, created by writer Len Wayne and artist John Romita Sr. in collaboration with Herb Trimple.

Publication history

Wolverine's first appearance was in the final panel of the comic. The Incredible Hulk#180 (October 1974) by Wayne with artist Herb Trimple. The character then made several appearances in promotional material for Marvel publications before making a full-fledged comic book debut. The Incredible Hulk#181 (November 1974), which, like the previous one, was produced by Wayne and Trimple. In a 2009 interview, Trimple said that he "remembers vividly" Romita's sketches and that, according to him, Wayne and Romita "sewed a monster together and it shocked [him]". Trimple goes on to say that it was originally going to be a supporting or third character that would appear in a particular issue with no future prospects. At the same time, Trimple denies any involvement in the creation of the image of Wolverine.

The character's introduction was initially ambiguous, as it revealed very little information about him outside of his work for the Canadian government. In the footage, Wolverine does not retract his claws, although Wayne originally viewed them as retractable. He later appears briefly at the end of the comic. The Incredible Hulk #182.

The next appearance of Wolverine took place in 1975 in the comic Giant-Size X-Men#1 produced by Wayne with artist Dave Cockrum, in which Wolverine was recruited into the new X-Men team among others. Cover artist Gil Kane incorrectly drew Wolverine's mask, giving it noticeably larger characteristic "ears", which, however, pleased Cockrum, who believed that it was similar to Batman's mask and introduced this image into his work. Cockrum, for the first time, portrayed Wolverine without a mask, and as a result, his characteristic hairstyle became an attribute of the character.

A reboot of the X-Men series followed, starting with issue 94, written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Cockrum. At first, Wolverine's figure is overshadowed by the other members of the team, although he creates some tension due to his feelings for Jean Gray and the resulting skirmishes with her lover Scott Summers. As the series continued, Claremont and Cockrum (who preferred Nightcrawler over Wolverine) considered dropping the character from the series, but John Byrne, who replaced Cockrum, defended the character, explaining, being a Canadian himself, that he did not want the Canadian character to be removed from the team. The basis for the image of Wolverine by Burn was the image of the hero Paul D "Amato from the film "Kick on Goal" in 1977. Burn also created the Alpha Squad, a group of Canadian superheroes sent to capture Wolverine because of the costs invested by the Canadian government on his training. In subsequent stories gradually became aware of Wolverine's dark past and his unstable nature, which he tries to keep in. Byrne also designed a brown and gold costume for Wolverine, but retained the distinctive hood introduced by Cockrum.

Biography

Wolverine is a mutant with superhuman abilities. He possesses regeneration, which allows him to survive after severe injuries, fatal to an ordinary person. Most poisons and diseases also fail to kill and seriously harm Wolverine's health. His ability also increases stamina and agility, sharpens his senses, slows down the aging of the body. Wolverine's skeleton differs from the human one by the presence of six claws (that is, three per hand), similar to daggers and razor-sharp. After participating in the Weapon X experiment, Wolverine's skeleton was coated with an indestructible adamantium alloy. Wolverine is an expert in many types of hand-to-hand combat, has combat training, worked as a scout, mercenary and CIA agent. Participated in the First and Second World Wars, fought in Spain and Vietnam, a great tactician and strategist.

Most often depicted with a very sharp character, fearless and indomitable, with great willpower.

Since 1982 he has had his own comic book.

Much of the plot with Wolverine consisted of his search for his own forgotten past, until his memory was fully restored in 2005 (real time), due to a massive event in Marvel Comics called "M-Day".

In series Wolverine Origins, Wolverine learns the whole truth about his past. In one of the main events of Marvel comics - " civil war"- at first he maintained neutrality during the pursuit of Nitro, but then sided with the "underground" along with " Secret Avengers».

Capabilities

Wolverine is a mutant with some both natural and artificially created changes in his physiology. His innate ability is an accelerated "healing factor" (regeneration), allowing him to repair damaged areas of the body much faster than an ordinary person. This ability facilitated the changes he underwent as part of the Weapon X program, during which his skeleton was reinforced with an indestructible adamantium alloy.

In the comics, it was long believed that Wolverine received his claws along with his adamantium skeleton, but during the "Deadly Attractions" storyline, Magneto stripped Wolverine of his adamantium, revealing a truth that even Logan himself didn't know about the skeletal nature of his claws.

Descriptions of Wolverine's ability to regenerate vary. At first it was shown as an accelerated healing of minor wounds, but over time, the strength of this ability was increased by the authors. Wolverine's regeneration has been shown by some writers to be able to heal severe wounds in a matter of days or even hours. Other writers continued to increase the power of this ability to the point where he could completely restore his entire body from almost nothing. One of Wolverine's more extreme examples of this ability shows the complete regeneration of the body's soft tissues within minutes of being completely burned (only a skeleton remained). The Xavier Protocols, a series of profiles created by Professor Charles Xavier, described the X-Men's strengths and weaknesses, noting that Wolverine's healing factor had risen to "incredible heights" and that the only way to stop him was to behead him.

In addition to speeding up the healing of physical injuries, Wolverine's healing factor makes him exceptionally resistant to disease, drugs, and poisons. However, despite this, he still experiences immediate effects of these substances; his liquor poisoning was shown, he was also incapacitated more than once with drugs and poisons. Although his body is healing, the healing factor does not quell the pain he feels when he is injured.

Wolverine's healing factor also affects some of his physical attributes, enhancing them to superhuman levels. He is able to keep his body in full tension even after being injected with strong tranquilizers. Wolverine's mobility and reflexes are also enhanced to levels beyond the limits of the finest human athletes. Thanks to the constant work of the healing factor, he can overstrain the muscles without harm to himself. This, plus the strength of his bones, gives him some level of superhuman strength. Because the presence of adamantium enhances the natural strength of its bone structure, it can move or lift weights that would otherwise damage the human skeleton. He was shown breaking steel chains, lifting several people with one hand and throwing them over the wall, breaking through it, and lifting a Big Bear (a huge bear-like creature) over his head, after which he threw him across the room.

Wolverine's mutation also consists of animal-like additions, which include prominent fangs and three extendable/retractable claws inside each forearm. While initially described as bionic implants created by the Weapon X program, these claws were soon labeled as a natural part of his body. The claws, which are not made of keratin, as are the usual claws of most animals, but of extra dense bone, can cut most metals, wood, and some types of stones. Wolverine's hands do not have holes for advancing the claws - they break through his flesh with each use.

Wolverine's senses of sight, hearing, and smell are superhumanly acute. He sees a perfectly clear picture at greater distances than an ordinary person is capable of, even in almost complete darkness. In a similar manner, his sense of hearing is also enhanced, allowing him to hear sounds that ordinary people cannot hear even at great distances. Wolverine is able to use his sense of smell to track down a target by scent, even if that scent has naturally weakened slightly. This sense also allows him to distinguish werewolf mutants despite their different appearances.

Thanks to the high-level psionic shields installed by Professor Charles Xavier, Wolverine's mind is extremely resistant to telepathic attacks and penetration. Wolverine's mind also possesses what he calls "psychic scar tissue" due to so many traumatic events in his life. This serves as a kind of natural defense even against strong telepaths like Emma Frost. Wolverine turned out to be one of two mutants whose memory Scarlet Witch on M-Day could not change.

Wolverine's entire skeleton, including the claws, was filled with adamantium at the molecular level. Thanks to him, his claws can cut almost any hard material. The only known exceptions are adamantium itself, Muramasa's magic blade that can pierce through any material, as well as temporarily suppress Wolverine's healing factor (his location is known only to Logan) and Captain America's shield, made of vibranium, which is slightly less durable, but has the ability to absorb vibration waves . Wolverine's ability to pierce through a substance depends on both the strength with which he can push and the density of the substance. Adamantium also makes his punches heavier, which increases his offensive abilities. But, since adamantium is a metal alloy, this makes Wolverine exceptionally vulnerable to electrical and magnetic attacks.

Wolverine

Born at the turn of the 20th century, James Howlett is the man who would later become Wolverine. Wolverine) was a very sickly child. But he was a mutant with an incredible gift of self-healing. Sharp bone claws for the first time crawled out of the boy's hands when, during a domestic quarrel, he killed his father in a fit of anger.

Wolverine's travels around the world

Howlett began to travel to different places, and over time, the terrible childhood memories were completely erased from his memory.

James became a man without a past.

Taking the name Logan, he changed many professions and places of residence.

But Howlett still found no rest anywhere.

The hero fought in both world wars, lived for a long time in Japan and in the small town of Madripoor, a haven for pirates and smugglers. The healing factor gave him incredible longevity.

At one time, James worked as a secret agent for the Canadian government, but this did not lead to anything good.

Soon Logan got into the Weapon X program, the founders of which dreamed of recreating an invincible super-soldier like Captain America.

Agents of "Weapon X" kidnapped the hero and used him as a guinea pig.

Logan was tortured until they realized that his body was able to withstand anything.

As a result, the military covered the skeleton of the mutant with adamantium metal, and erased the mind.

After that, they tried to subjugate Howlett to themselves.

Beside himself with anger, James broke out of captivity and fled to the Canadian forests. There he was found by the Hudsons. They came out as a fugitive and invited him to work together for the Canadian government in the Alpha Squad, in which they themselves were.

Wolverine's new name

Alpha Squad

There, Logan received the code name Wolverine (Eng. Wolverine).

Hudson wanted the hero to become the leader of the new team, but Professor Charles Xavier, a famous mutant and leader of the X-Men, came into play.

Recognizing the nature of Howlett's abilities, Professor X invited him to join the team.

Wolverine agreed and went to America.

At first, his bestial nature scared away other heroes.

But then Logan found true friends among them.

He also believed in Charles' dream to live among normal people and not be afraid.

The mutant later joined the Avengers and helped Captain America during the Civil War.

After the Scarlet Witch had a nervous breakdown, Logan and his friends returned reality to its previous state.

At the same time, he remembered his whole life from beginning to end.

Wolverine discovered that Romulus, leader of the Lupins, had engineered the death of James's wife Itsu and, taking her newborn son, raised the boy as a ruthless killer named Daken.

Wolverine family problems

Wolverine family

Knowing that Daken was made to fight him, Wolverine asked the Winter Soldier to hire Deadpool to stop the villain.

Bucky himself put a carbonade bullet in the young man's head, blocking his healing factor, and Logan decided to take his son in order to free him from the influence of Romulus.

However, not long after, Daken was kidnapped by Sebastian Shaw.

And yet the young man remembered the past and helped his father in the battle with Romulus.

He then joined Norman Osborn (Green Goblin)'s Dark Avengers and took on the name Wolverine, donning his superhero costume.

However, Logan clashed with his son several more times, and Daken convened a new composition of the Brotherhood of Mutants to destroy him.

As a result, Wolverine reluctantly was forced to drown the offspring.

Wolverine's journey to hell and back

Soon, a mysterious group of enemies of Logan "Red Right Hand" helped the demon take over his body and sent the hero's soul to hell.

While Wolverine was trying to get out of there, his counterpart on Earth began to kill everyone in a row.

Trying to rectify the situation, the hero, with the help of Puck and his father, found the Devil himself.

After that Ghost Rider, Hellstorm. Mystic and journalist Melita Garner rescued Logan and drove the demon away.

Wolverine then tracked down the members of the Red Right Hand, hoping to kill the villains, but first he had to fight their Mongrels minions. The members of the sect committed suicide in the meantime, but before that they informed Logan that all the Mongrels killed were his illegitimate children.

Wolverine is a famous hero from the Marvel Comics universe, part of the X-Men group. Few people know that the clawed character did not initially receive public recognition, but miraculously remained on the pages of graphic novels, gaining popularity on a wide scale. It got to the point that in 2017 the directors presented the film “Logan” to movie fans, where Wolverine became the main character in the performance.

Story

In 1974, the regulars of comic shops met a new character in the Marvel universe - Wolverine (Logan), who was invented by screenwriter Len Wayne and artists John Romita Sr. and Herb Trimple. This superhero was named after the wolverine, a carnivorous mammal from the weasel family, since the character of James Howlett (the name "in the world") coincides with the animal that grew up in the wild.

The first sketches of John Romita, who recreated the real monster together with Wayne, shocked Herb Trimple, although this artist later strongly denied his participation in creating the image of the obstinate character.

A mutant with superhuman powers appeared briefly in issue 180 of The Incredible graphic novel and then appeared in an advertising campaign for Marvel before making his full debut in issue 181 of the magazine.

It is noteworthy that Wolverine was supposed to appear in several comics as a hero of the second or even third plan, with no prospects for the future. First of all, this was due to the poor biography of the character. All that was known was that James Howlett worked for the Canadian government.

In 1975, Logan got into the first issue of the Giant-Size X-Men comic, where he joined the X-Men, a squad of superheroes with the X Factor gene, which causes a mutation.

The mutants included in this unit are struggling with problems of both internal and global scale, repelling the misfortunes of space villains and defeating brilliant criminals. Wolverine had to work side by side with such superheroes as Deadpool, Cyclops, Storm, Ghost Cat, Magneto and other arbiters of justice.

Since the 94 issue of the graphic novels, the X-Men series has undergone changes, but Wolverine still did not stand out from other superpowers. But the scriptwriters brought some tension into the comics: James Howlett had mutual love feelings for the beautiful Jean Grey, thereby creating skirmishes with her young man Scott Summers.

It is noteworthy that then-writers Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum considered removing Wolverine from the script because they preferred another mutant, Nightcrawler, to this hero. Yes, and the bosses from Marvel were sure that Logan is a depressive and uninteresting character that fades against the background of other superheroes.

But illustrator John Byrne, who replaced Kokrum, insisted that Logan appear in the X-Men comics, because he himself was Canadian and did not want to exclude his “compatriot” from the pages. Byrne developed a new storyline by creating Alpha Flight and also gave Wolverine conflicting personality traits. In the future, the brave mutant acquired a wave of fans and became a full-fledged superhero with an individual temperament.

The last comic about James Howlett, titled Death of Wolverine, was released in 2014. In other publications dedicated to the mutant team, Logan was replaced by his clones and doubles, and in the magazine from 2015, his son James Hudson, who arrived from a parallel universe, appeared instead of Wolverine. But in 2017, the creators brought back the main character, who had risen from the dead.

Image

The writers came up with a full-fledged biography of Wolverine. Based on the events that happened to the superhero in the early years, one can judge the formation of the character of this character. It is known that the boy grew up and was brought up in the family of Elizabeth and the wealthy landowner John Howlett. James was the second child, and his brother died under mysterious circumstances.

It would seem that a carefree and rich childhood is all that is needed for happiness, but James was in poor health, and besides, the estate guard Thomas Logan (possible biological father of Wolverine) added a considerable portion of tar to a barrel of honey.

The fact is that the watchman had such a quality as an addiction to strong drinks, because of which he had bouts of unreasonable aggression. The dog (a friend of Wolverine), guided by resentment, killed the puppy James, because of which the Howletts decided to evict the Logans from the estate.

As a result of the conflict, Thomas shot John in the head with a shotgun, and James, who was watching this situation, had an emotional breakdown: the boy gained superpowers, and claws grew out of his hands, with which he tore the offenders.

After a nightmarish situation, Elizabeth was unable to live a normal life and committed suicide. James, left an orphan, fled the estate, and his brain forgot the past due to the stress he suffered: for most of the comics, the mutant tried to collect the remnants of memory bit by bit. Wolverine is shown in the comics as a loner dealing with his own personal problems. The superhero is rude and unfriendly, and also shows disrespect for authority figures.

Wolverine, guided by the politics of an outsider, is suspicious of friends and former colleagues. However, the avid mutant bachelor had romantic relationships with women. Despite his wild and rough nature, Logan adheres to a code of morality and honor: the clawed character does not like to bleed offenders. Wolverine is also very smart: having traveled to many countries, he learned languages and espionage techniques, thanks to which he worked as a CIA agent.

As for appearance, in 1975, illustrator Jill Kane incorrectly drew a superhero mask with unusual ears on the cover of a comic book, which other creators of Wolverine liked, as they saw a similarity with. His colleague Kokrum portrayed the hero without a brown and gold suit with a characteristic hairstyle: a 180 cm tall man has blue eyes (sometimes brown), lush hair and wears sideburns.

Capabilities

The main difference between Wolverine and other superheroes is his skeleton (later covered with adamantium alloy - a fictional indestructible metal), in which there are six razor-sharp blades that extend on the hands between the webs of the fingers (each hand has three points). Due to the metal alloy, Wolverine is vulnerable to electrical and magnetic attacks.

With the help of these innate adaptations, the mutant can literally cut his opponent in half, especially since the superhero knows the technique of hand-to-hand combat. Although, despite his experience, sometimes Logan purposefully allows himself to be seriously injured, counting on ultra-fast regeneration.

Wolverine's soft tissues and injuries heal within minutes, causing Logan's body to age more slowly than normal mortals. In addition, he is not afraid of narcotic substances, deadly poisons and viral diseases.

Wolverine also possesses agility, physical strength, superhuman speed, and reflexes. Wolverine's abilities surpass those of his fellow Spider-Man and Daredevil. The mutant can see and smell his target even in the dark and from a long distance, and is also able to find the enemy by smell. Because of his animal resemblance, Wolverine has sharp fangs, as well as bones protruding from each forearm that are capable of piercing through wood or metal.

Movies

It is not surprising that such a colorful character as Wolverine, over time, migrated to cartoons, computer games and even cinematic creations of eminent directors. The following is a list of animated works and all parts of the films where Logan appears:

Actor

The only and part-time best Wolverine was the actor, remembered by the audience for the films "Password" Swordfish "" (2001), "Prestige" (2006), "Les Misérables" (2012) and other noteworthy works. The Australian debuted as Logan in the sci-fi film X-Men (2000) and subsequently reincarnated as a superhero in the rest of the franchise.

It is noteworthy that there were many applicants for the role of Wolverine. Initially considered, and the project was approved by Dougray Scott, who refused to shoot due to his employment in the film "Mission Impossible 2". Three weeks before the work on the film, director Bryan Singer approved the then little-known actor Hugh Jackman for the role. It was participation in the "X-Men" that brought him popularity and fame.

Hugh approached his work responsibly and even learned the technique of hand-to-hand combat. The writers equipped the future Wolverine with ten suits made of thick leather and PVC, which were worn out after difficult filming. Also, the actor in tricks used about seven hundred blades made of plastic, wood or steel.

  • Illustrator John Romita Sr. came up with the idea of Wolverine's retractable claws because he was concerned about practical issues: the artist wondered how Logan would be able to maintain personal hygiene, lace up his shoes or pick his nose with such sharp blades on his hands.
  • Len Way, who received an order to make a hero for the Canadian market, was inspired by our smaller brothers, so he firmly decided to endow the character with the name of an animal. Initially, the screenwriter had to choose between a wolverine and a badger.
  • In the more than 40 years that Wolverine and his legacy have traveled, the hero has had many adventures and misadventures. He was in many teams, received various incarnations on film or television screens. As the hero changed, so did his costumes. So sit back and read the story about all the Wolverine costumes.

The first version of the black and yellow suit

    First appearance:Incredible Hulk #181 (1974)

Appearance: Already during its first appearance, the Wolverine costume resembled the one that many will love in the future. It had all the basic elements: yellow spandex, black tiger stripes marked on it, a pointed mask, gloves, and seemingly useless coat hangers.

The main difference of this version of the costume was a mask with a mustache. Apparently, wolverines look like cats. But still it was a good suit, in need of a little refinement.

    Black skin

    First appearance: New X-Men #114 (2001)

Appearance: As is the case with most movie comics, monthly X-Men episodes have begun to take their toll from the movie. So the mutants have finally swapped out flashy spandex for slightly less ostentatious black leather.

The team was dressed in leather suits with a bright yellow "X" logo. Was the goal to make the logo just as recognizable? How .

For several years, Wolverine wore a T-shirt and a leather jacket. And this costume even appeared in the game X2: Wolverine's Revenge.

    Source: New X-Men (2001) #114, released July 1, 2001.

    Ultimate Wolverine

    First appearance: Ultimate X-Men #1 (2001)

Appearance: At the dawn of the new millennium, Marvel realized they needed to try something different to attract new readers.
