Character history. The story of the character Humpty Dumpty fell in a dream

In the "Through the Looking Glass"

Initially, the verse about Humpty Dumpty was included in the "Tales of Mother Goose". In modern English the word "humpty dumpty" has two meanings: "little fat man" and "thing that has fallen or broken and is not recoverable."

Historically, the Humpty Dumpty is believed to have been a great fortress tool. The story with him is connected with the events of the Civil War in England (1642-1649), which took place during the siege of the city of Colchester by Cromwell's supporters in the summer of 1648. The Royalists strongly fortified Colchester. The huge weapon, colloquially called "Humpty-Dumpty", was installed on the wall next to St. Mary's Church. During the siege, the parliamentarians succeeded in damaging the wall below the Humpty Dumpty with a cannon shot, and the gun fell to the ground. The Royalists tried to install Humpty Dumpty on a different part of the wall. However, the weapon was so heavy that "all the king's men and all the king's horses could not lift it again." As a result, the Royalist forces were severely undermined and strategically important Colchester fell after an 11-week siege.

Saying goodbye to Alice, Humpty Dumpty says that at the next meeting he will not recognize her, since he cannot distinguish her face from the faces of other people. Thus, Lewis Carroll gives one of the first descriptions of prosopagnosia - a mental disorder expressed in the inability to recognize faces. Informally, this disorder is sometimes referred to as Humpty Dumpty syndrome.

A line from a poem about Humpty Dumpty was chosen by RP Warren as the title for his famous novel, All the King's Men.

Currently, the character is not forgotten. His image was used in the commercial for "Kinder Surprise"

Like on Valdai Island,
There was one Humpty Dumpty.
The forest is all around, there is a hut,
An animal sits on a chain.

Toli owl, toli cat,
Who will disassemble the animal.
Living alone is boring
A scarecrow is a meow.

Guards Humpty's sleep
After all, he will wake up chatting.
Day and night without stopping
He says it's all to no avail.

He was small in stature, he was snub-nosed,
All woolly, bare feet.
Like buttons eyes
Lop-eared like a goat.

In the morning, somehow at dawn,
He woke up in January.
The eye has opened, the sun is not visible.
After all, a hut without a window.

Stretched and yawned
Hands, legs pulled.
I dropped my legs to the floor
His mouth opened and ...

Talked about cockroaches
About beetles that there are no glasses
That he slept over the summer
That I have not seen the light for a long time ...

I dangled around the hut for an hour.
He got angry, then laughed.
I put a hat on my ears,
The door opened, I was dumbfounded ...

The snow lies, the frost is fierce.
You won't notice how it blows out.
After all, one lives like a finger,
And no one is waiting for him ...

Staggered near the house
I chatted between the trees
I ought to find a girlfriend
To walk around the woods.

And went Humpty Dumpty
For the bride to Altai.
He walked and walked straight
Because I'm so used to it.

Through the swamps, through the forest
He climbed into the forest blockage.
Frightened a bear in the thicket-
As asked his business.

What are you doing? - He waved his hand ...
I'm a friend! Where? Wait!
And again on the road, on the way-
Do not take a nap or rest.

So it went day and night
I saw the mountain with my own eyes.
-It's Mount Altai!
So Humpty Dumpty arrived.

Began to question the animals
Where do they know better,
Where does Shaltayushka live-
Sweet Chatterbox?

Little animals tell him
Secretly and by ear,
What lives is reeling.
If you don't find it, it hangs out.

All spring I waited for the hostess.
I was waiting in the hut on the lawn.
Came the nearest forest
On a pine tree, I searched, I climbed.

Suddenly I heard noise and din
Someone jumps on trunks
Now crying, then laughing
Someone's talking is heard.

Flies out of the thicket
Sweeping branches with a skirt
Sundress, on her sweatshirt-
Then she ... Humpty dump.

I immediately saw the guest,
She ran up and said
That he came to her and was glad!
Valdai is far away, not near!

Listen, I'll tell you!
I'm sitting alone in the wilderness!
I went for mushrooms
Last year's snows….

And Humpty ... chatted.
That I collected mushrooms,
That she's bored without help
That I have worn down my feet ...

She described where she had been
I collected cedar cones,
And grinded everything incessantly
He realized that everything was useless.

And she told him ... geranium ...
That she is too lazy to get up early,
Why is she too lazy to wash the pots,
Gathers the roots ...

After all, I learned from the magpie,
What came not lopsided
That came to marry her
And now I had to return.

Humpty could not resist here
He cursed all Siberia, Altai,
And sideways, sideways, sideways ...
He darted home silently.

Ran through the windbreak
He remembered Valdai and the house.
He ran and followed
How wonderful it was for her ...

Humpty Dumpty walked silently
Silence ... this is paradise.
And since then Humpty is silent
He became talkative like a boulder.

Lived and lived in his hut
On a remote forest edge.

Reviews

And I come from Altai,
and met that Humpty,
he walked west, was silent,
I have seen Humptyka ...
We were on our way with him
walk a couple thousand miles
he was silent all the way
silently we reached the Volga.
There he found a bride
and she was from the local,
always ready to listen
did not contradict a word.

There is such a background:
There is no need to walk far.

Character of British children's literature. Appears in poetry for children, fairy tales and literary works. Mostly known for the book "Alice Through the Looking Glass" by authorship.

History of creation

Initially, Humpty Dumpty is a children's poetry character that was included in the fairytale collection "Tales of Mother Goose". Several such collections have been released. One was collected and published by a French poet in 1697. In England, a century later, collections of classic nursery rhymes were published under the title "Melodies of Mother Goose".

Since then, Humpty has "wandered" through dozens of literary works and has firmly entered English culture. In modern colloquial English, the expression "humpty dumpty" is used to mean "fat little man" or "that which has been dropped or broken and cannot be repaired."

The etymology, or the meaning of the expression as such, most likely goes back to the name of the large serf tool, which was used during the British Civil War (mid-17th century). In the summer of 1648, supporters laid siege to the heavily fortified city of Colchester. A huge weapon was installed on the wall near St. Mary's Church, which in conversations was given the unofficial nickname "Humpty-Dumpty".

Later, a cannon shot brought down a part of the wall under the gun, the gun fell to the ground, and the soldiers were unable to install it again due to the fact that the Humpty Dumpty was too heavy. The "whole royal army" did not manage to lift and re-use the "Humpty" because of the weight of this machine. As a result, Colchester was surrendered to the enemy.

"Alice in the Wonderland"

Humpty Dumpty is known to the Russian reader mainly as a character in Lewis Carroll's "Alice Through the Looking Glass". In this book, the hero appears as a huge anthropomorphic egg, which is wearing a tie. , the main character, buys a simple egg at the Sheep store, which the White Queen had previously become. This egg grows and, in turn, turns into Humpty Dumpty. Alice tries to make out the words in a poem about the Jabberwock, and Humpty helps the girl in this, sitting on a high wall and crossing her legs in Turkish style.

In the mouth of Humpty Dumpty, Carroll, who was a mathematician by profession, put his own position on some of the controversial issues of science at that time. According to the hero, every name must mean something, and words have only the meaning that the hero himself gives them. As a mathematician, Carroll did not see the point in figuring out what "really" mathematical concepts are, but believed that it was only necessary to define them. This point of view prevailed in the end.

Humpty Dumpty is a person close to the White King. The hero claims that the White King presents him with gifts for his "unbirthday", that is, every day all year round, except for the birthday itself. When Humpty Dumpty falls and breaks, the King sends all his own cavalry and army to collect the hero. The egg-shaped Humpty Dumpty, among other things, does not distinguish one human face from another and tells Alice when parting that he will not recognize the heroine if he meets again.

Screen adaptations

Humpty character Alexander Dumpty appears in DreamWorks Pictures' cartoon Puss in Boots. This is a spin-off of the Shrek series released in 2011. Humpty Dumpty here is a childhood friend with whom the Cat has unpleasant memories. The cat met Humpty in an orphanage, where he ended up as a kitten. As a child, friends steal a lot to find and get the magic beans that Humpty dreams of. But later, when the Cat tries to get off the criminal path, Humpty Dumpty substitutes his former accomplice.

Humpty Dumpty in the cartoon "Puss in Boots"

Humpty Dumpty is voiced by an American comedian known for his Bachelor Party movies. In the Russian dubbing, Humpty is voicing.

In the same 2011, another cartoon was released, where Humpty Dumpty appears - "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore." This short fifteen-minute cartoon won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Humpty Dumpty is also one of the key characters here. Humpty Dumpty comes to life on the pages of a book that a flying girl sends to the protagonist. The revived Humpty takes the hero to the library where anthropomorphic books live. The film was directed and written by William Joyce.

In 1968, the American family film Children in Toyland was released. Humpty Dumpty is present there as a minor character working in a toy factory.

In 1983, the creative association "Screen" released a puppet cartoon "Humpty Dumpty" based on English folk songs for children in translation.

Quotes

In Russian, the poem about Shaltay-Boltai in Marshak's translation is mainly known:

All the royal cavalry
All the king's men
Collect Humpty Dumpty! "

Humpty Dumpty
Fell down in a dream.
All the royal cavalry
All the king's men
Can't Humpty,
Can't Chatting,
Humpty Dumpty,
Chatting Humpty,
Collect Humpty Dumpty!

The well-known poem translated by S.Ya. Marshak. But the speech, of course, is not about Humpty Dumpty from Lewis Carroll's wonderful tale "Alice Through the Looking Glass".
Our hero, it seems, also "fell", but
The "king's men" are in no hurry to help Humpty.

I tried to understand a little about the Shaltay of our days; in recent days, both the media and the Internet endlessly trumpet about it.

Who is who?

Humpty Dumpty Leader Vladimir Anikeev ("nickname" Lewis - you see, he imagines himself the Carroll of our day).
A lot has already been written about him:

That he was born in Makhachkala, that in the 90s he worked in the St. Petersburg media; that he himself was not too much to write, but he had other (very valuable) abilities: he was able to find the necessary information, obtain compromising evidence on businessmen and officials, meet the right people, drink with them, play novels with secretaries, in general, acquire useful contacts. Later he began to appear in Moscow and even "became a part of the presidential administration", where he was known as a journalist and black PR specialist.

After creation Humpty Dumpty in 2013 (the group itself called itself "Anonymous International") Anikeev learned the addresses of the personal mailboxes of "the right people" (clients) and handed them over to hackers for hacking (phishing).
It is said that he even somehow created fake Wi-Fi networks and cell phone operators near restaurants in the presidential administration area. All the collected information was forwarded to the team members in Thailand and Estonia. Others, however, deny this.

But there is no doubt about it: Anikeev is not so much a journalist as a PR man and an investigator - he knew how to collect information and turn his skill into business.
He was well known by many people in St. Petersburg, and then in Moscow - Anikeev began to often attend events "Foundation for Effective Policy", which was headed by Gleb Pavlovsky.

Co-founder of Humpty Dumpty Alexander Glazastikov now lives in Estonia, where he intends to apply for political asylum. At the beginning of February 2016, he gave about ten interviews to various media outlets - and in all he said about the same thing. BBC, The Insider, Medusaand other publications have confirmed that Glazastikov was related to Humpty Dumpty.

He also clarified the use of these beautiful names (in an interview Rain):
According to Glazastikov, there were two main participants in the project - Anikeev and him. There was no clear division of who would be Humpty and who would be Chatting. To communicate with journalists, they presented themselves in different ways.

Sobchak: How exactly did you introduce yourself?
Scout: Differently: both Humpty and Chatting.

According to Glazastikov, the project was created with a political goal - "reveal some secrets that not the entire public knows."Over time, it acquired a commercial component - the group obtained information by sending phishing emails.

In an interview The Financial Times Glazastikov said that at the beginning of 2016 Vladimir Anikeev told his "colleagues" that the group had curators in the special services, who asked for the right to veto the publication of data. In December 2016, Anikeev summoned members of the group to a meeting in Moscow. Glazastikov refused to go and announced his withdrawal from the project.

Konstantin Teplyakov in Shaltay dealt with the processing of the received archives of correspondence.

In 2005, he graduated from the St. Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics; according to Kommersant he was the developer of the computer games Destiny Sphere, NetWars and Astronix. In 2007, Teplyakov moved to Thailand - he called himself the managing partner of Q Property, which sells real estate in Thailand and Montenegro. Kommersant indicates that about 30 sites are registered on Teplyakov, from which Trojans and fake antiviruses were distributed.

According to Glazastikov, Teplyakov had nothing to do with the hacks themselves and was primarily concerned with processing the data already received. All hacks were carried out by hackers who were hired from time to time on specialized forums.

Teplyakov was detained in early December 2016. At a court hearing on February 9, he pleaded guilty.

Alexander Filinov was born in 1986 in Moscow, at the time of his arrest was unemployed and was in the labor exchange. Moscow's comsomolets described it as "an intelligent-looking young man with glasses and a black suit and white shirt"... He said that he worked as a technical employee at MTS (this may mean that he had access to a vulnerability in the SS7 signaling protocol system, which allows him to intercept calls, SMS, passwords of network users).

"Everything that is imputed to me, I was not able to do, I am not a programmer, information technologies do not interest me at all, I am a technician, I am interested in communication, music"- Filinov said to the court, stating that he had nothing to do with Shaltay-Dumpty, and the accusation against him was based on Anikeev's testimony.

Filinov was also detained in early December 2016. The investigation believes that he is associated with one episode of illegal access to computer information; his lawyer Merab Shamdinov said that the matter concerns an official, whose name is classified.

Another alleged member of Humpty is a 30-year-old Irina Shevchenko, known as Alice. No official accusations were brought against her, she is at large.

JellyfishLewis said that Alice "A field employee does a very important job - when you need, for example, go to a cafe that Prokopenko goes to, sit down behind him and see what he is typing on his computer."Shevchenko said she considered the accusations in connection with Shaltay-Boltai "nonsense". Alexander Glazastikov said Rainthat Alice is a fictional character. In general, while the fog, perhaps, "the investigation will show ..."
Humpty Dumpty, in the words of Lewis, is a "side project" of his team; their main job is to search for information by order of private and official persons. In total, the company has a little more than ten people.

The structure of the company is most similar to the "clan of online games": employees do not know personally, but spend a lot of time together in chats. They are not paid a salary, the amount of fees varies depending on the degree of participation in the next operation to search for information. Fees are listed in cash, sometimes in bitcoins.

After the company began publishing documents under the Anonymous International brand, no new people were recruited into the team.

"Exploits" of Humpty Dumpty.

According to Glazastikov, hackers initially pursued ideological goals by hacking corrupt officials or businessmen connected with them. "To reveal some secrets that not the entire public knows, maybe even does not even suspect about their existence: about the activities of persons associated with the Russian government, with the presidential administration and some confidants, let's say, businessmen."- he says.

Humpty Dumpty signed publications with the phrase "Always with you, even when you are not aware of it."

However, Anikeev from the very beginning hoped that after some time it would be possible to earn money on this. Lewis achieved this goal - someone else's correspondence turned into a large and profitable business. " Selling the contents of the boxes at auction for bitcoins, of course, brought some profit. But the main funds for preventing the correspondence from getting on the Web or, on the contrary, appearing on Shaltai-Boltai, were paid in cash in Moscow and St. Petersburg. "

During the existence of the project Scout earned about 100 thousand dollars. How much did you earn Anikeev, not exactly known. Scout suggests that about half a million dollars.

The group first became famous in 2013: a few hours before the New Year, hackers published the text of congratulations from Russian President Vladimir Putin. He considers the hacked mails of the deputy head of the internal policy department of the presidential administration to be the best publications of the Scouting group Timur Prokopenko, businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin and former defense minister of the self-proclaimed DPR Igor Strelkov. "Those were great times, it was a pleasure to participate," - he recalls.

In the mid-2000s, Anikeev "got access to the mail of a high-ranking St. Petersburg official"- this was his first "goldfish": the official had to pay Anikeev so that information from his mail would not be published anywhere. The same was done with other civil servants and businessmen from St. Petersburg.

The hackers later published correspondence between Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the Secretariat of Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, Head of Roskomnadzor Alexander Zharov and other high-ranking officials... Often, only a few letters were posted publicly, the rest were put up for sale for several thousand dollars.

In 2013, hackers sent a fake message about the dismissal of Vladimir Yakunin from the post of head of Russian Railways... In 2014, Humpty Dumpty took responsibility for hacking of Dmitry Medvedev's twitter and for the message about the resignation of the prime minister: "I am resigning. I am ashamed of the government's actions. Sorry."

Later, other messages appeared on the microblog, including: "I have long wanted to say. Vova! You are wrong" and "Anyway, I will become a free photographer!"... On behalf of the prime minister, tweets appeared about the senselessness of the meeting of the top leadership of the Russian Federation in Yalta on August 14, as well as about the "ban on electricity" being discussed in the government.

In addition to tweeting, the Prime Minister was also subscribed to several new accounts: opposition leader Alexei Navalny, journalist Roman Dobrokhotov, radio Anonymous and the Humpty Dumpty blog blocked in Russia.

According to information Life, many civil servants and businessmen bought out their correspondence even before it was put up for a public auction. The hackers were paid by more than 30 officials (regional and federal) and representatives of the business community.

The scandal was caused by the publication of a photo with a famous public figure, a member of the Public Chamber Christina Potupchik, who sits next to a bag of cash in the presidential administration. Also in the press got the correspondence of the deputy head of the presidential department for domestic policy Timur Prokopenko, in which he discusses cases against Alexei Navalny and his associates.

The correspondence was published of those who did not make a deal with the hackers for two reasons - either the "exposed" had nothing to hide, or they were sure that their roof was stronger and the publication of compromising evidence would not lead to their resignation or to other consequences. Those who were afraid of revealing some corruption schemes and their dishonest attitude towards partners were ready to pay huge sums of money for Humpty's silence.

Victims of publications, who somehow appeared in correspondence, more than a hundred.

Now the special services, as part of the investigation of the Anonymous International case, are also checking those who paid for the correspondence and materials of this correspondence.
"Many of them paid just so that information about corruption deals and tenders in which they were tied did not become public. Now it is possible that they will become involved in cases - not as victims, but as accused,"- says a source in the investigation team.

As for publications about the work of the pro-Kremlin media, the most scandalous was the leak of the personal correspondence of a well-known media manager, head News Media by Aram Gabrelyanov, as well as fragments of the TV presenter's correspondence, chapters MIA "Russia Today" Dmitry Kiselev. The publication of information about Evgenia Prigogine, who is considered the "personal chef" of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Finally, the last major leak - publicizing by Humpty Dumpty allegedly the correspondence of the Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov, which dealt with Ukraine, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. In particular, the media paid special attention to a document called "Shatun", which formulated a "plan to destabilize Ukraine", and proposals on how to form the leadership of the DPR. The article Rosbalt it is alleged that it was this drain that worried the authorities more than others and precipitated the arrest of the group members.

"Whether the curator asked Volodya about this, or whether he got it himself and decided to place it because of his political convictions, is unknown. As already said, Anikeev played a double or even triple game all the time. Well, he played it out," - said the source.

As a result, in the course of an operational combination, Lewis was lured to St. Petersburg in October 2016 - under the pretext of receiving a large sum for one job. However, instead of a suitcase with money, FSB operatives were waiting for him in the northern capital. This could no longer prevent the publication of "Surkov's correspondence". Individual members of the Humpty team (in particular in Ukraine and Thailand) continue to work with old content, which has accumulated a lot. Some of them are wanted.

And according to the data Fontanka Anikeev was detained by officers of the military counterintelligence, who were engaged in the development of Shaltay-Boltai after the group published documents related to the Ministry of Defense:

“We regretfully became convinced of the complete incompetence of employees of a number of units of the Russian Ministry of Defense in the field of information security, and more specifically, of criminal negligence. Unencrypted official documents were often transmitted through free mail services such as yandex.ru, mail.ru and American gmail representing classified information related to the defense of the Russian Federation "... (Something reminds me of a story that happened recently in another country ...)

Anikeev was detained and then arrested. The FSB Directorate charged him under Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ( Illegal access to computer information). Lewis, already on the second interrogation, began to cooperate with the investigation and give information about literally everything that he knew. What exactly Anikeev said is unclear.

However, in December 2016, employees were detained FSB Information Security Center Mikhailov and Dokuchaev ... At the same time, Surkov's chief of staff resigned from his post. Alexander Pavlov ... Newspaper Vedomosti linked this personnel change to the leak of "Surkov's correspondence" to the Ukrainian website.

Anikeev's lawyer said that his client was not connected and did not know the FSB officers detained in the high treason case (while Rosbalt claimed that they were arrested precisely because of his testimony). On January 30, the court extended his arrest until March 8, 2017.
