Reward

Upon completion of the task, the hero will receive a reward. Freilia Gray-Mane will not only thank Dovahkiin, but will also give him an enchanted weapon forged in the legendary Heavenly Forge. Unless, of course, the blacksmith dies before that moment. Otherwise, the gift will be 200 septims.

Perhaps someone already knows how to go through this quest bloodlessly, after all, two years have passed, but still I will write how it turned out for me.

So, I decided to somehow continue Skyrim with the preservation of two years ago (my second playthrough). Of the mods, I installed only all unofficial patches. In Skyrim, I went through almost everything that was possible at that time: the main campaign, the war-empire, the thieves campaign along with the cities, allies, all the main quests of the cities, passed the assassins a little (soaked the cousin) and went through the Guardian of the Dawn, opened the whole map. Heartfire and Dragonborn weren't out yet.

So, the Missing Quest I was constantly postponing, like maybe I will go through everything with the legion, something can come out of this quest. I was also interested in the issue of bloodless passage. I remember even then in vain I was looking for such a method in the internet. As far as I remember, after talking with the old woman, she gives me the task to find proof that her son was taken by the Empire. But only I did not go to the house of the Sons of Battle, but talked to the Idolath, he gave me a piece of paper and I go with her to the old woman. When talking to her, I chose the bloodless path.

Now walking around Solitude "purely by chance" I wandered over to Tullius and, having talked with him, he pokes at me a piece of "Imperial Order", saying that in gratitude for the war (me) won (or something else xs) go to the Thalmor and figure it out.

Upon arrival, we show a piece of paper to the guard of the Northern guard fortress. He says: "All the rules, follow me." But as soon as I go outside the gate, the guards will aggro at me (again a bug). If you turn on invisibility, then you can safely follow the guard. Just do not forget to constantly conjure it, preferably somewhere in the shade. Even if the guard aggravates you, wait it out, he will calm down and move on. Upon arrival to Thorald, we talk to him, taking the guard away from him before talking.
After the conversation, you again turn on invisibility and go to the exit. All guards will only aggro on you.

As soon as you go out to Skyrim, run out of the fortress and buff the invisibility so that all the guards will leave you behind. After that, quickly run to Thorald, talk to him. He will also say that he will send to the old woman and run away during the usual capture of the fortress. That's all.

About Skyrim

The state of Skyrim is an old Kingdom, the birthplace of the Nords and just a vast region located in the north of Tamriel. He is on the verge of complete destruction. And there, due to the death of King Torug, a civil war had already begun, in which family members had to fight against each other. Some of the great northern people began to oppose the Empire, which had already slightly lost its authority. The other part decided to stay on the side of the authorities, hoping for its protection and a large army.

But it is not the raging war that Tamriel needs to fear. There is talk of prophetic predictions described in the oldest scrolls, which speaks of the return of the dark force - the dragon Alduin, called the eater of worlds. It is also reported about a mortal savior born with the soul of a dragon - Dovahkiin. It is believed that only he is able to fulfill the prophecy and forever expel mythological creatures from Tamriel.

Scene

In the game "Skyrim" the quest "Missing" is geographically tied to the North Watchtower, which is not of particular interest, and the city of Whiterun, founded by 22 associates from the legendary squad of the Atmor fleet leader Isgamor. First, a banquet hall was built on the side of the mountain - Jorrvaskr, then the Heavenly Forge, but Whiterun himself appeared even later. Now it is a large, constantly developing city. And although this is neutral territory, in the civil war, the local Jarl is more supportive of the Empire.

Whiterun is located in the central part of Skyrim, and from it you can equally quickly get to any place. In addition, trade is well established there. Therefore, the city is considered a strategically important settlement for both the imperial legionnaires and the rebellious Stormcloaks.

Whiterun is divided into three districts. The Windy District is home to the Hall of the Dead, the Temple of the Goddess Kynareth, the Heavenly Forge, Jorrvaskr, and the Nordic sacred tree Goldleaf. In the next area, Plains, are located: taverns, shops and barracks, in which the city guards live. There is also an empty house, which for a certain fee will be available to the main character. And in the Cloud District there is a prison and Dragon's End - a castle in which the Administration and Jarl live with their family. This is the tallest building in the city. Hence its name.

Characters

Despite the fact that the population of Whiterun is quite high, to complete the mission "Missing" ("Skyrim"), you need to know only a few individuals from a pair of clans.

Dragonborn is the main character in the game and the last Dragonborn. Dragon's blood flows in his veins, so he is able to understand their language, as well as absorb their souls. At first, no one knows about this, but after the killing of the first dragon, rumors about his abilities spread throughout the land, and even the “gray beards” from the “High Hrothgar” fortress invite him to their carpet.

"Gray Manes" - the clan that would be the main one in Whiterun, if not for the rivals from the clan "Sons of Battle". The reason for their confrontation is civil war, because the former support Ulfric's rebels, and the latter remained loyal to the Empire. Although these families used to be very close.

At first, the "Gray Manes" will remain neutral towards the main character, but then their opinion will change. Perhaps the "Missing" mission completed in Skyrim will affect this.

Freilia Greymane is the jewelry merchant and mother of Torald. It is she who gives the task to find him, since she does not believe in the death of her son.

Thorald Graymane is a Nord who, apart from his family, was buried long ago by everyone else. A bold but stupid character. He openly opposed the Empire, after which he was captured.

Avulstein Greymane is a clan member and brother of Thorald. He constantly hides in the house, as he believes that the Imperial Legion is hunting him. Avulstein really wants to help his brother, but is afraid that he will suffer the same fate. Therefore, he will react quite aggressively to the appearance of the hero, but, realizing that he did not come to his soul, he will remove his huge ax.

Skyrim: Missing. Walkthrough with murders

Now let's get down to the main thing: how to complete the game. So, the mission "Missing", "Skyrim", Whiterun. It all begins when the hero, passing by the market, hears the conversation of the members of the "Sons of Battle" clan, who are trying to convince Freilia Graymane that her son Torald is dead. The unhappy woman does not believe them and claims the opposite. And the hero, if he is interested in her problem, she will ask to come to her house in order to better bring him up to date.

In the house of the Gray Manes, hospitable Freilia tells Dovahkiin that there is evidence that refutes the death of Torald, only they are in the house of their enemies - the "Sons of Battle". Through the back door you can get into the mansion so as not to break open the door. Inside the building, you should find a closed room on the first floor. And in it on the table will be the "Imperial message", from which it will become clear that Torald is being kept in the North Watchtower. After that, it is necessary to inform Avulstein everything, and also decide whether to take him on a rescue mission or leave the nervous Nord at home.

In any case, the aggressive option of passing involves a walk to the North Watchtower. There you will have to eliminate all the guards and get inside. All that remains is to take the key from the overseer, who will also have to be killed. However, the freed Thorald will not return home, he will simply convey a message to his mother, from which she will understand that her son is fine.

Skyrim: Missing. Passage without kills

However, there is also a more peaceful way. For those who do not like murder, the following information about the passage of the quest "Missing". Skyrim is a harsh region, but no one has canceled humanity there. True, this will require a high level of development of the "Stealth" skill. And then everything is simple. It is necessary to get past the guards, find a cell with a prisoner, free him and take him out in the same way. Moreover, if the hero is not found, then Torald has nothing to worry about.

Missing person (orig. Missing in Action) - side quest of the Gray Manes faction in the game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim .

Short walkthrough

  1. Meet Freilia at her house. Freilia Graymane in Whiterun is convinced that her missing son Thorald is alive but held captive. She will invite the hero to her home to talk about it.
  2. Investigate Thorald's Fate: Avulstein Greymane believes his brother Thorald was captured, and that there is evidence of this in the House of the Sons of Battle in Whiterun. We need to find evidence and bring them to Avulstein.
  3. Meet Yon Son of Battle at the Talos Statue.
  4. Take the proof to Avulstein.
  5. Rescue Thorald from the North Watchtower.
  6. Get Thorald to safety.
  7. Speak with Thorald Graymane.
  8. Return to Freilia.

Passing

Having visited the "Prancing Mare" tavern in Whiterun for the first time, the protagonist can see an ugly scene of a dispute between Freelia Graymane and senior representatives of the Sons of Battle clan upon leaving it. Freilia is confident that her son Thorald is alive and in captivity, while Alfrid and her son assure her that he is dead. Accusing her son of treason and finally insulting an elderly woman, the Sons of Battle leave. The main character will have the opportunity to talk to a merchant and offer her his help in finding his son.

The quest will begin after speaking with Freelia Graymane in Whiterun. She will tell the hero that her son is alive, despite the fact that everyone says the opposite. She will ask to come to her home to discuss it without witnesses. Arriving at her home, Dovahkiin will meet her second son, Avulstein, who will explain why they believe that his brother, Thorald, is still alive. However, they need to get evidence to help find it.

If the main character, for some reason, missed a scene on the market or somehow prevented it from taking place, then Freilia will not have the necessary dialogue thread. However, you can break into her house and talk to Avulstein directly.

To find evidence, you need to go to the house of the Sons of Battle. It is better to enter through the back door, rather than break into the main door, and find a note on the table in a locked room on the first floor. The leaf is called "Imperial missive"... It reveals that Torald is being held captive by the Thalmor in the North Watchtower.

There are, however, other options for obtaining the required evidence:

  • You can blackmail Jon Son of Battle if the hero is aware of his relationship with Olfina. To do this, you need to steal a compromising letter from his pocket. It is interesting that it remains with the protagonist even after obtaining evidence, but it is still impossible to tell anyone about their relationship.
  • With a high skill of eloquence (above 80), you can convince the Idolaf Son of Battle to provide all information about Thorald.
  • If in the first conversation with the Sons of Battle on the market, the hero said that he stands for the Empire, he will be declared a friend of the clan and access to their estate will be free, which will allow you to take the note without any problems.
  • If Dovahkiin helped Lars Son of Battle get rid of the pursuit of Breit, the boy will consider the protagonist his friend and access to the estate will be free, which will also allow him to take the Imperial message without any problems.

After, in one way or another, the necessary circumstances have been obtained, the information should be reported to Avulstein. Then there are several options for the development of events:

  1. Go to free the prisoner with Avulstein;
  2. Go to free the prisoner yourself;
  3. For an independent operation to rescue Thorald, there is a separate option - to solve the case bloodlessly (however, this opportunity, apparently, is not fully implemented in the game).

If you choose an aggressive rescue method, then you need to go to the North Watchtower and remove the guards to get inside the complex.

When the hero gets to the prison, the interrogator will attack him as soon as he discovers his presence. After killing him, you need to free Thorald, chained to the wall in the back room. After he picks up a suitable weapon for himself, you need to quickly leave the fortress.

Note: if, in a noble impulse, the hero wants to release the prisoners from the cells, then he will only waste the master keys - they will not go anywhere, and they will even snap back. However, you do not need to use the master keys: in the corridor with the prisoners to the left of the entrance there are two levers that unlock the cells.

After the release, Thorald will be grateful to the hero for saving. He then explains that it is not safe for him to return to Whiterun, as the Thalmor will be looking for him. He will announce that he is going to join the Stormcloaks, and will give the protagonist a message to convey to his mother.

When the hero comes to Freilia with the news of his rescue, she will demand confirmation. It is necessary to retell her the message that Thorald transmitted: “ Do not be afraid of the cold winter winds, for they carry the seeds of next summer". She will thank Dovahkiin for help and for the message that her son is alive and well.

As a reward, she will give the hero an enchanted weapon from the Heavenly Forge. Weapon types and enchantments are random. If Eorlund Greymane dies before the quest is completed, the reward will be 200 septims instead of weapons.

Note: if the hero, not finding the imperial message, comes to save Thorald in the North Watchtower, the dialogue will not appear.

Bloodless path

Warning-icon Important: this moment is one of the greatest bugs in the game.

If the proof is not given to Avulstein, but go to General Tullius, then in a conversation with him a remark will appear with a request to release the prisoner, when choosing this remark, the general will answer that this is impossible; if you give the proof to Avulstein, then a replica asking Tullius will not appear.

Note: joining the Imperial Legion and completing all quests for that faction will not change General Tullius' response.

As intended

For a peaceful solution, it was necessary to talk to the guard at the entrance to the tower, donning a set of legionary armor, or to show the guard a letter from General Tullius in order for the option to appear in the dialogue release a prisoner". However, the set of armor is not present in the game, and the letter is available only in the test location and is not added to the inventory even using console commands.

  • Fixed in version 1.9.

As it is

You can take out the prisoner without bloodshed by using the "Invisibility" spell or having a high level of the "Stealth" skill. To do this, you must quietly get to Thorald, free him and quickly leave the fortress through the back door, because he will start fighting with the guards and get stuck. After the main character leaves the fortress, Thorald “ magically”Appears from the door and the guard does not react to it.

Bugs

  • After talking with Freilia Graymane, the quest may not start.
  • After the conversation, Freilia will invite the hero into the house. During the day (until the end of the day), the door to the Gray Mane dwelling will be open. Subsequently, the door for the daytime will be closed as usual, however, after penetration, the hero will in any case try to arrest.
  • After talking with Jon Son of Battle, he will unlock the room containing the note. If you pick it up instead of Yon, or steal the note when he picks it up, the quest will not continue.
    • Decision: load the save before the hero gets the note and let Yon take it himself, and then go after him to the statue of Talos, where he will give it to the protagonist.
  • With Unofficial Skyrim Patch, a letter from General Tullius can be received immediately after the completion of the dialogue about taking the oath or if the hero sided with him in negotiations during the "Endless Time" mission.
  • If you decide to storm the fortress together with Avulstein, it may happen that he will only show up after Dovahkiin leaves the fortress with Thorald: he and his friends will wait outside. It is also possible that the protagonist's companion will not go anywhere with them, and you will have to free Torald alone.
  • After talking with Thorald, he can suddenly "disappear" into the wall.
    • Decision: load the last save (sometimes it takes more than once).
  • After Thorald Graymane is freed, he will pick up the first available weapon and follow the hero, but if there are no weapons nearby, he will stand in place and will not go anywhere. To solve this problem, you can put some weapon in the chest or nearby. Do not try to throw a weapon at him using the pickpocket mode - he will become aggressive.
  • After completing all the quests of the Imperial Legion, Torald Graymane does not leave the fortress, and after restarting the game, he runs after the hero, but the quest cannot be turned in.
  • If you follow Avulstein after the end of the quest, he will remain standing not far from the Finicky Sload ship. The route has not been corrected as of v. 1.9.32.0.8.
  • If you take this quest after defeating the Stormcloaks in the civil war, Freilia continues to complain that her sons need to hide, although they are no longer in danger.
  • If the hero is in the fourth stage of vampirism, Alvustein Greymane will become aggressive towards him.
  • Also, if the hero is in the form of a beast, then Alvustein will attack him.
  • If Vidrald and Geirlund survived after completing the quest, they will forever remain in the courtyard of the North Watchtower.
    • Decision PC : bug fixed in Unofficial Skyrim Patch version 1.2 and higher.

Notes

  • If Dovahkiin clears the tower before the quest appears, then Thorald will not go with him. But later, after receiving the assignment, it remains only to come to Thorald in the cleared tower and take him out.
