Here the level of happiness is much lower than it should be in the current state of affairs, ”says Ronald Inglehart. “Social Doctor” Inglehart knows what he says: judging by the results of measurements, Russia from a low level of happiness in 1991 fell to a completely impossible level. Moreover, such a speed and depth of fall have never been recorded - even in countries covered by war, epidemics and famine.
But this was not enough - by 1996, the level of happiness fell even more. And yet ... A slight increase was recorded only in 2006. By this time, the country was bathing in petrodollars, holidays in foreign resorts became commonplace for Russians, and Russian prices caused a rash among stingy foreigners. At the same time, Russian citizens had as much happiness as Albanians.
Inglehart explains the Russian phenomenon by stagnation, and then the collapse of the USSR, the lack of democracy, etc., but generally admits that the answer is not complete. Still, the collapse of communism affected other countries, and even the former Soviet republics, many countries experienced much more misery and poverty, and their citizens did not observe such pessimism. In fact, to search for the reasons for the phenomenal unhappiness of the Russians, Inglehart came to our country.
One explanation is the sociocultural values \u200b\u200bof Russians. In 2006, the WVS drew up a kind of cultural map of the world. All countries studied (and this is 90% of the world's population) were distributed along two coordinate axes. One concerns cultural values: traditional - modern. The Japanese and the people of Southeast Asia, professing Confucianism, decided that everyone, of course, is for himself, but it’s not necessary to die standing up. The inhabitants of Catholic Europe diverged with the Confucians only one thing: they are not sure that everyone is for himself. The proud inhabitants of Latin America naturally replied that they were ready to die standing up, but all for one. Residents of Africa and South Asia are ready to live on their knees, but again, all for one. In post-Soviet countries, citizens chose to live on their knees, but each for himself.
Russia here turned out to be the most “advanced” - even the people of Africa are not ready to endure like the Russians, and comparable individualism was found only among the Bulgarians and Belarusians. It is clear that in a world where "everyone dies alone" and "you die today, and I tomorrow", it is difficult to be happy.
The second explanation lies in the discovery made by the group of Ronald Inglehart. It turned out that the saying "happiness is not in money" is absolutely true. True, only from a certain level of income: when the country's GDP per capita exceeds 5 thousand dollars a year. Up to this point, improving the welfare of citizens makes them happier. Moreover, with GDP below 2 thousand dollars a year, this alone can bring them happiness. Perhaps it was the authorities' awareness of this danger that caused the Inglehart group to be the only one in the field of social sciences to win a grant from the Russian government. The words of Inna Malkhanova are confirmed by the abundance of terrible stories occurring in the Russian state.
The village of Kozlovka, located in the Buturlinovsky district of the Voronezh region, has been shaken by scandals for almost a month. The calm in the village was disturbed after a local guy had a fight with an Azerbaijani peer. The young men admitted that both were wrong and reconciled.
A few days later, a fight broke out again: this time, 20-year-old Alexei Lepyokhin had a fight with 21-year-old Armenian Robert Koshelyan. Some residents sided with Robert: they say that Lyosha has recently returned from the army, his blood is raging ... Another part said that Robert is not an angel, wrote on the Internet that "he will do whatever he pleases." Lyosha did not like this and he expressed his displeasure to his neighbor. As a result, his jaw was broken.
At first, the parents of the brawlers wanted to "solve the world." The Lepokhin family demanded 100 thousand rubles from the Koshelyan family, but they replied that they could provide only 30 thousand. The said amount of the Lepёkhins did not suit and Alex wrote to Robert a statement to the police.
Locals were outraged by the behavior of the Koshelyan family. At the same time, they also remembered the Azerbaijanis whose family opened a bar in the village. A few dozen people decided to liquidate the "hot spot" and headed for the bar. Parents of the victim Alexei Lepokhin were not among them.

The police managed to calm the heated people with great difficulty.
Local authorities, wanting to put an end to the conflict, invited residents to a meeting in a village club. About 200 people came, but the conversation did not work out. People shouted: “Our children are being beaten, and you are standing up for strangers!”, “Visitors here are getting richer, and we are beggars!”
- In my opinion, the causes of the conflict in Kozlovka are not related to ethnic conflicts. Poverty, a sense of hopelessness, the annoyance that strangers earn a lot of money ... People are tired of a difficult life and spilled anger on visitors, - says voronezh human rights activist Andrei Komarov.
