– Good afternoon! We are glad to see you. Today we would like to tell you about the most popular British holidays such as St. Valentine"s Day, Easter, Christmas and Halloween. Let’s start from the most romantic holiday St. Valentine"s Day.

– ST. VALENTINE"S DAY is celebrated on February 14. Every St. Valentine"s Day thousands of people travel to a small village on Scotland"s border with England to get married. The village is called Gretna Green. It was the first stop across the border. Many young couples came to Gretna Green to get married there.
– Nowadays, in this place, at least one couple gets married every day of the year. On this day boys and girls, sweethearts, husbands and wives, friends and neighbours exchange greetings of affection and love. People send each other greeting cards, chocolates and flowers. Valentine"s cards are very colourful, with a couple of human hearts on them.
One of the best presents on St. Valentine"s Day are flowers. Let’s listen to the poem “Flowers”.

The holiday which all people love very much is EASTER .
– Easter is one of the famous and favourite holidays. In England everybody presents each other with Easter eggs which are the most popular emblem of Easter painting egg-shells is an old custom and painted eggs always decorate breakfast tables on Easter days. Easter eggs are usually made of chocolate. Nowadays they are often artificial .
– There are some Easter games. For example: sometimes Easter eggs are hidden about the house for the children and they must find them.
Every year London greets the spring with Easter Parade which took place for the first time in 1958 and since that time it has become a traditional religious festival.

– Мне кажется, что жизнь короля и королевы – сплошная сказка. А какой праздник – самый волшебный?
– Ну конечно же Рождество! Только представьте себе тихую зимнюю ночь. На тёмном небе появляются звёзды и месяц, в домах зажигают рождественские ёлки, деревья покрыты сверкающим снегом, приближается Рождество. Ночь. Всё вокруг замерло в ожидании чуда.
Christmas day is the most popular holiday. It is celebrated on December 25. People try to be with their families on that day. They make or buy Christmas cards and send them to their friends, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. They decorate the Christmas tree with coloured lights and toys. On this day many people go to churches, eat a Christmas dinner of roast turkey and Christmas pudding. Many people watch the Queen"s Christmas broadcast on TV. One of the most important Christmas traditions is giving presents. Family members wrap up their gifts and leave them at the bottom of the Christmas tree to be found on Christmas morning. People say that at night Father Christmas puts presents into the stockings, which children usually hang on their beds. This day is a traditional day for meeting relatives and a special day for сhildren.

HALLOWEEN
– On the 31 st of October in GB there is a nice holiday for children Halloween. It isn"t an official holiday. but it is a very special day. People put pumpkins on the window-sills. They draw eyes. noses and mouths on the pumpkins and put candles into them. So the pumpkins look like a face.
Children dress in fancy costumes as witches, ghosts, or characters from TV programmes, and so on. The windows of many houses are brightly decorated on Halloween. In the evening groups of children go from house to house, knock at the doors and say "Trick or treat "(Угощение или шутка) (Which means "if you don"t treat us to something tasty, we shall play a trick on you"). People give them sweets, fruits, cakes or money.
This is a nice, funny and "tasty" holiday, isn"t it?

WALT DISNEY AND HIS HEROES
Walt Disney was born Chicago, his father being Irish Canadian, his mother of German-American origin. He revealed a talent for drawing and an interest in photography early on and after service with the American Roy Cross in the First World War. In 1923 he left with his brother Roy for Hollywood and for some years struggled against poverty while producing a series of cartoon films. In 1927 he had some success with the series called "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit", but it was not until September 1928, when "Steamboat Willie" appeared, the first "Mickey Mouse" with sound, that he achieved lasting success. Mickey Mouse became a household word together with such companions as Minnie, Pluto, and – perhaps the favourite of them all – Donald Duck.
"The Three Little Pigs" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", with their still familiar songs by Frank Cherchill, immediately spring to mind. After the Second World War Disney turned his attention to real-life nature studies and non-cartoon films with living actors. After a rather unsuccessful feature cartoon "The Sleeping Beauty", he made a triumphant come-back with the very successful "Mary Poppins".
In 1955 he branched out into a different enterprise – "Disneyland", a huge amusement park in southern California. Disneyland is situated 27 miles south of Los Angeles, at Anaheim. Of all the show-places none is as famous as Disneyland. This superb kingdom of fantasy linked to technology was created by Walt Disney.
The park is divided into six themes and there is so much to see and do in each that no one would attempt to see all of them in one visit. For extended visits, there are hotels nearby.
Walt Disney died in California at the age of 65. His works have given so much pleasure for many years to many people, young and old, in many countries.

Внеклассное мероприятие «Ролевая игра A Teacher + A Student =?»
Цель: стимулирование познавательного интереса к вопросам межличностного общения, социальной самоидентификации личности студента, являющегося важной составляющей процесса коммуникации в образовательном процессе.
Ход игры:
В игре участвуют 2 подгруппы: студенты 3 курса (команда «студентов») и студенты 4 курса (команда «преподавателей») отделения «Иностранные языки».
Compere: You know how important it is to concentrate on relations between student and teachers and create a suitable atmosphere in class. Looking at students as colleagues is of principal importance for every teacher. Respect for them is a must. We hope that being taught in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation will help them in the future to communicate with everybody easily and feel responsibility for their actions and words. Love for children and warm relationships with them are important themselves. This is something we should discuss with the students all the time. So, the title of the role play is “A Teacher + a Student =?”. At the end of the game we are to give an answer to this question. Two teams participate in the game – the team of the teachers and the team of the students. Having opened the door and seen funny expressions on the children’s faces, the teacher stopped in the door of the classroom. Цели:
Образовательная: совершенствование лексических, грамматических и аудитивных умений и навыков у учащихся, развитие коммуникативных навыков через различные виды речевой деятельности.
Контрольная: мероприятие позволяет учителю оценить уровень усвоения материала, пройденного в курсе преподавания английского языка.
Воспитательная: воспитание инициативности и любознательности у учащихся.
Задачи:
Организовать психологически благоприятную атмосферу для проведения мероприятия.
Содействовать сплочению коллектива.
Развивать творческие способности.
Участники: 2 команды с приблизительно равным количеством человек в каждой. Число сильных и слабых участников в каждой команде приблизительно одинаково.
Подготовка к мероприятию: перед проведением мероприятия учащимся следовало повторить правила грамматики и фонетики английского языка, а также слова, приобретенные за последнее время. Задания мероприятия построены в соответствии с теми знаниями, которые учащиеся должны были приобрести. В процессе подготовки к мероприятию учителю следует подобрать наиболее интересный материал.
Условия проведения мероприятия и оценки результатов: мероприятие проводится ведущим (учителем). Оно состоит из трех этапов: на первом этапе учащимся будут предоставлены фонетические задания. Во втором этапе проводится викторина, содержащая в себе лексические и грамматические задания. Каждая команда отвечает по очереди, за каждый правильный ответ, предназначенный для конкретной команды, дается 1 балл, в случае, если команда не может ответить на свой вопрос, а противоположная команда знает ответ, последняя получает 2 балла. В третьем этапе проводится «супер-игра», позволяющая команде, набравшей меньшее количество очков догнать или обыграть команду соперников.

Викторина по английскому языку «Ключи от форта Боярд»
Описание материала : Данный сценарий будет полезен учителям английского языка для проведения внеклассного мероприятия. Викторина проводится для учащихся 5-9 классов в рамках недели английского языка. Участвуя в викторине, ребята развивают и совершенствуют свои интеллектуальные и творческие способности, учатся достойно побеждать и терпеть поражения.Основные цели:
повышение мотивации учащихся к изучению английского языка,
развитие коммуникативной компетенции.
Выбираются команды по 6 участников (из разных классов). Каждая команда выбирает себе название. В роли хозяев форта выступают учащиеся 10-11 классов и учителя-предметники. Игра проходит в два тура.
Ход игры.
Игра начинается в вестибюле 1-го этажа, где выслушиваются пред-ставления команд и сообщаются правила игры, каждой команде выдается маршрутный лист.
Правила игры.
Задача каждой команды в первом туре набрать как можно больше ключей, спрятанных в разных местах. Для того чтобы получить ключ, необходимо выполнить задание, результат при этом является подсказкой для нахождения ключа.
На каждом этапе первого тура выполнять задание имеет право только тот участник, которого выбрал хозяин форта. При этом остальные участники команды не имеют права заходить в кабинет. Если задание выполнено неправильно или выполняющий не вложился в отведенный интервал времени, этот участник остается заложником в данном месте и не имеет право принимать участие в дальнейшей игре. Участник команды играет только один раз. Время на этапе отводится для выполнения задания и для поиска ключа.
В первом туре побеждает та команда, у которой набрано большее число ключей. В случае одинакового количества ключей командам предлагается разыграть дополнительный ключ.
Во втором туре играет команда, победившая в первом туре. Задача команды отгадать ключевое слово. Для этого они собирают подсказки, предложенные хозяевами форта, выполняя то или иное задание хозяев форта по тем же правилам, что и в первом туре. Для получения дополнительных подсказок можно пожертвовать участником команды.
Первый тур - сбор ключей
Та команда, которая наберет больше ключей, переходит во второй тур, в случае одинакового количества ключей представителям команд предлагается сыграть в игру "Последний камень".
Суть игры: Из кучи камней двое играющих по очереди берут 1, 2, 3 или 4 камня (каждый раз, сколько кому нравится, но не меньше одного и не больше четырех). Выигрывает тот, кто возьмет последний камень.
Первый этап
(читальный зал - 3 мин):
Ведущий объясняет, что ключ спрятан в книжном шкафу в книге, на обложке которой находится рисунок отгадки на предложенную загадку. Участник имеет право выбрать только одну книгу.

Второй этап
(рекреация около кабинета директора - 5 мин):
Ведущий говорит, что злые враги надежно спрятали ключ где-то здесь и заветное место никому не открывают. Однако самый трусливый из бандитов признался, что ключ можно найти с помощью координатной плоскости. В точке с определенными координатами на полу лежит листок, на котором написано, где спрятан ключ. Кроме этого листа на полу находятся еще несколько листочков, где указаны неверные координаты.
Путь: 1.
Участник становится в точку с координатами (nine; zero). Прыгни в точку (five; minus three), (one; minus one), (minus one; one), (minus two; four), (two; four), (minus two; eight).
2. Участник становится в точку с координатами (zero; zero). Прыгни в точку (one; three), (six; two), (six; minus two), (two; minus one), (minus two; one), (minus five; five).
* Участник, поняв, что сделал неверный ход, не имеет право возврата.

Третий этап
(спортивный зал - 2 мин):
Преподаватель физкультуры, пытаясь прекратить игру, спрятал ключ. Участникам предстоит добыть ключ, пройдя спортивную эстафету. Того, кто добывает ключ, выбирают жеребьевкой, только считалочка заменяется задачей.
Ключ пытается добыть тот участник игры, который стоит в шеренге по росту под номером ответа.

Четвертый этап
(кабинет биологии – 3 мин):
Ведущий объясняет, что учитель биологии потерял ключ где-то в кабинете. Он помнит только то, что для этого надо:
Задание: ответить на вопрос на английском языке
1. Морское млекопитающее подотряда зубатых китов (dolphin)
2. Наука об отношениях растительных и животных организмов друг к другу и к окружающей их среде (ecology)
Ключ находится под крышкой парты, номер которой совпадает с номером правильного ответа. 1-Ecology, 2-Biology. 3-History, 4-crocodile, 5-dolphin, 6-mouse.
Второй тур - сбор подсказок.
Команде предлагается разгадать слово "fairy tale", чтобы получить доступ к сокровищам. Для этого им предлагается найти подсказки.
1 подсказка (2 мин) находится в кабинете русского языка.
Слово разбито на три части "по – вест – вов - ание", которые приклеены в разных местах кабинета.
2 подсказка (2 мин.) "любят все, особенно дети" находится у мудреца (подсобка кабинета английского языка). Чтобы ее получить, необходимо разгадать одну из его загадок.

На геометрических фигурах написаны буквы, из которых необходимо со-брать следующую подсказку (слово "вымысел"). Фигуры рассыпаны в вестибюле.
* За каждую из двух оставшихся подсказок команда должна пожертвовать одним из участников («волшебство», «магия»).
Если команда отгадала слово, то участники должны записать это слово на доске по-английски, после чего они получают доступ к сокровищам. Им необходимо вынести из кабинета биологии как можно больше воздушных шаров. На все это отводиться 1,5 минуты (на сокровищницу – 30 секунд).
Подведение итогов.
Обе команды собираются в актовом зале. После финального сигнала участники команды-победителя лопают свои шары и получают призы. Далее приглашается проигравшая команда, которой вручаются утешительные призы. Выигравшая команда получает главный приз. Кроме того, отдельные учащиеся награждаются по следующим номинациям:
"Лучший дешифровщик" - вручается древний свиток, на котором рукой Морзе написано поздравление;
"Лучший прыгун" – грамота;
"Лучший сыщик" – медаль от Шерлока Холмса с правом передачи по наследству.
